I wonder if anyone else here were fans of Beach House?

They were on my radar some and then when Pitchfork had the stream of "Used to Be" from a new 7" I finally gave in and bought their two albums.

I would think a lot of Eisley fans would like them. The sound is not too much unlike the Eisley demos - a lot of songs feature organ/drum machine/reverb-y female vocals.

Here is the new video for "Used to Be"

They have some other videos up on Pitchfork TV. I really like the song 'Gila' from their last album, Devotion (not the video so much - very weird).

I've been a fan for a bit over two years now, though I haven't listened to them much lately. Even though they are mostly pegged as "autumnal" music, I think their sound fits winter--Texas "winter," that is--quite well. Thus, I'll likely be returning to their records soon enough.

I've seen them occasionally compared to Slowdive, which I don't quite hear.

I agree with your opinion on the "Gila" video. I think these turned out much better:

P.S. Have you heard Fight Bite? You might like them. Here's a link to one of their songs:

I dig 'em. I can't remember how I heard about them, but I have Devotion and enjoy it from time to time.

Lots of love for Beach House. I get the comparison to the early demos. They definitely share a dreamy quality.

I need to get on the Fight Bite train soon. My friend's band has played with them a lot and she's a fan. Maybe tonight.

No, I haven't, but I'll check them out.

P.S. If anyone knows how to get an mp3 for "Used to Be" either from the imeem stream (on Pitchfork) or off the video I would be very happy if you sent me a link for it. The usual method (file2hd) doesn't seem to work with imeem. I bought the 7" and their 2 albums all together through their record company, Car Park Records, but I have no way of transferring vinyl to computer.

I like 'em- when I'm in the mood for smooth and mellow.

Haven't heard them, but will give them a listen at the LC crowd's recommendation Smile

Lou Reed/velvet underground, I guess, along with perhaps a small army of heroine & moonshine drenched lounge crooners from the '20s.

Most proximately, Dream Syndicate?

Honestly, all I know of Mazzy is Fade Into You. The majority of MS's songs may be nothing like that for all I know.

When I first heard Starflyer 59 circa The Fashion Focus they had that sound on some songs, too - heavily reverbed slower tempo songs with some type of slide guitar.

VU has some songs like that? All I have is VU & Nico. I keep putting off buying the box set to get all the rest of their albums all at one time.

i think it's so sad that not that many people know about them. beach house is terrific. their music is very intoxicating and gorgeous.
i don't know if i'd compare them that heavily to mazzy star. mazzy star really sounded druggy. beach house's music is softer.
