I saw this on another site, but it was not attributed to anyone. So posting it here. Discussion on taxes anyone?

A TAX POEM

At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of
it. Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
peanuts Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt..

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his a__.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
upon his tomb,
' Taxes drove me
to my doom...'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Accounts Receivable Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was
the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in
the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the world happened?

Too little actually. We don't have a state income tax in Florida, but we need one badly. Else we'll end up like California! Sad

The poll is a bit circumstantial. The tax paying public pays too much tax for what we get out of it. We spend so much on defense and so little on ourselves.

It's funny how little we get for what we pay. We actually fund UHC in Iraq and Afghanistan, but yet we are one of the only developed nations in the world who doesn't have a form of UHC.

I think we should ultimately be taxed more, but have a major shift in what our tax dollars are spent on. Less on defense and oil, more on guaranteed quality healthcare, UHC, sustainable infastructure, etc. I think the Nordic Model is where it's at in terms of priorities.

The saying "You Get What You Pay For." Should be an altruism, but it isn't. The balance between efficiency, ingenuity, and empathy should guide our tax policy and federal and local works. That's just how I feel.

I'm still a dependent who has no income, so the only tax I pay is sales tax.

And on that note, I can't wait to go back to Texas, if only for the sales tax there. Frappin' 9% sales tax in Louisiana...

It is always great realizing exactly where my tax dollars are going. Finding out that Washington spent 100 million tax dollars on putting art in prisons was pretty much the greatest day ever.

I generally try to avoid shock jocks and deceptive facts like that. Yeah, 100 million dollars sounds like a lot of money to the common man, but we also have the largest incarceration rates in the world. We've got 3 million people currently locked up, which means we spent about 33 bucks on art for each man or woman in jail. Of course, the art will still be around long after the currently jailed prisoners are released. I don't know anything about the figures you gave, but art does have real psychological value. Along with music/literature/etc., it can create a positive impact on the health of a community.

We gave billions of dollars to companies who simply pissed it away with the same failed business plans. Call me crazy, but I'll take the art over that.

Taxing is important, how else is a state to prosper?
(corporate sponsor perhaps? jk)

With taxes, you have the working class people being taxed the most,
and the money going where ever.
You have social parasites living off welfare,
public prisons being funded by tax payer dollars,
as well as illegal immigrants taking from the system and not paying into it.

If the money was delegated more carefully for the people who put into it,
there wouldn't be much of a problem.

While I usually live by the rule if you provide an opinion prepare to defend it, I don't want to get into a debate so I'm going to throw in my 2 cents and leave.

When the economy bounces back, I would love to see a Fair Tax System.
I've made my money. I want to keep it. When I buy something I'm prepared to contribute to the economy so tax me all you want--just not on the money I EARN and WORK FOR.

“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that, my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

Do you want a flat tax rate (like 15% for everyone), or a flat tax amount? (like say $10,000 from everyone).

Either way, I can't understand what's so terrible about a progressive tax scheme. While it offers incentive to be upwardly mobile (you'll always take home more money for every extra dollar you earn), it offers a buffer to the poor who's quality of life would decrease dramatically if they were taxed on a flat system that brings in a equal amount of revenue.

Is it "fair"? Of course not. I'd argue that the socialized constructs that keep the working poor poor aren't fair either. Not all of us are privileged enough to be born into a middle class white family in a good neighborhood.
