Come to this one then, assuming it's all ages: SXSW - The Sessions Music, Eisley: Friday 3/19, 2:30pm @ The Hideout - 617 Congress Ave, 80 seat theater. Acoustic set. _________________ |

The answer on 21+ (don't get mad at me if this is all obvious info): The mark up on alcohol makes it a big time money maker, more so than the actual shows. The cost of fines for having minors in the area of a venue where the alcohol is served cuts into that profit. Now, if a venue is serving alcohol, they spent the money to get their Liquor license for a reason. They apparently want the clientele that will come to a venue, be able to have a drink, and not have to associate with minors. 18+ makes a little more sense to me, if only for curfew reasons. But the stench of shadiness still makes me skeptical. I don't like those kind of places, and those particular preferences. Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. _________________ yup, that's my name. FOR YOUR RATING PLEASURE: 4 LIKE Buttons, 1 NEUTRAL, 1 VEXED, 5 DISLIKE buttons. LC > FB |

Pollstar's fairly reliable... meanwhile you can always contact the venue directly http://www.hideouttheatre.com/contact of 512-hideout to get it (a yay, nay, or maybe) from the horses mouth. A lot of shows are scheduled during and around SXSW that aren't official part of the conference, so that might be why it's not up on their site? Or, it could just be that in these last few weeks a lot of things are being booked and not finalized yet, but will be soon, so some of the info is making it's way out early? _________________ yup, that's my name. In Texas it is possible to do all ages shows that serve... they do wristbands. Case in point, Eisley's last show at Prophet Bar in Dallas. The place they're playing is a bar though... its a place that is 21+, and licensed that way generally. If they wanted all ages they could, I believe, but its not their MO. |

Same here as far as wrist bands, or in the case of the the Creepy Crawl, fenced off bars, but there's always the chance that someone could pull a fast one with a fake ID etc. and get busted. I shouldn't be making excuses for clubs, but yeah, all it takes is somebody neglecting a drink they set down and a stupid kid swiping it to cause a load of trouble for a venue. _________________ yup, that's my name. The concern isn't unreasonable... not worth the hassle risk and expense for most bars, even for special events. Personally, having grown up overseas, I've always seen the problem as the draconian, retrograde, puritanical, hysteria-driven US liquor laws. Everyone else in the world finds them absolutely absurd. |
