 Post subject: 1st Reviews of The Valley! (Post reviews here!)Posted: Tue Feb 08, 2011 3:15 pm 
I'm sure we'll get some not-so-good reviews but - since these are the first, thought I'd post them. Some of you obviously already found the Boston piece. If you have the time, leave a comment on any site who goes to the trouble to review the band. Even larger entities sometimes rarely get comments. Or at least, click "like" on the fb button on the Boston review if u like it  . Thanks
The Melodic.net 4.5 out of 5. I especially loved Hendrik's last line. The Phoenix (Boston). This guy (Luke O'neil) seriously knows how to engage an audience. I freaking love his review. "Eisley are a bunch of damn hypocrites". So brilliant. The good press doesn't surprise me a bit. It's probably going to get a lot thicker. Some really good stuff on that album And they don't have a negative label association working against them any more (in fact, their label seems to be doing the right things, and more importantly, letting them do the right things). |

^^^^ nice in that it's complementary, but to suggest that the new stuff is a move in a gothier direction for Eisley is stretching it a looooooong way. Maybe if your starting point is If You're Wondering? 1) Don't hear so much of that in the new stuff in the first place- if there are those shades in there I'd say they tint Mr. Moon a lot more than Better Love. If anything, mr moon and better love sound proggy to me- sad and smarter are straight up new wave revival, and the valley and ambulance, nice though they may be, are straight ahead pop (complete with canned strings). 2) More importantly, it reveals a complete unfamiliarity with Eisley's back catalogue viz, Marvelous Things/OTM/etc. have WAY gothier/darkwave/neopsy kinds of influences than anything they wrote while at Warner. ...not to mention some of their earlier stuff (Dream for me/Sleepy Head/Blackened Crown) that go further than "influence" - more like self-conscious genre adherence. By today's standards it seems anything that both ever modulates out of a major key and has a beat is automatically "gothy", I guess. Maybe the current batch of young music journalists should try actually listening to some music one of these days. |

hahaha it's like my idea that the only thing that is remotely punk about pop punk these days is the fact that whoever's singing the song is in a band. other than that, most things considered pop punk are really just straight up pop music marketed towards the underground scene to seem alternative and edgy. _________________ Oneironaut http://www.facebook.com/ChengBand |

I have the new Under the Radar and they only gave it a 5 out of 10... Eisley's third album is pegged as their breakup album. In the four years since the band's last album, the DuPree sisters have endured three failed relationships - four if you count the split from their former label, Warner Bros. The Valley is often angrier, with heavier guitars in place of the airier soundscapes of the band's past work. Such tracks as "Smarter" and "Please" blister with the ire of love gone bad. The lamentable part of this is that often the amped guitars come off leaning a bit too close to Evanescence territory. But the tunes are imminently enjoyable and the interplay among the DuPrees' voices is always thrilling. Here, the good thing for listeners was the bad thing for band members; the breakups lend a lyrical and affective heft to the proceedings. And "Ambulance" may well be the best breakup song of the year, equal parts fragility, grace, pain, and resilience. |

Well, Evanescence were/are pretty horrendous... That said, if I read that without the foreknowledge of their score, I would have definitely expected at least a 7/10. Bizarre. |
