Recently I posted an "Eisley Starter Pack" on my tumblr for the benefit of my followers who don't listen to the band. 1. “Marvelous Things” music video 2. “The Valley” acoustic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16_P9wAJ7LA) 3. “Watch It Die” album version 4. “Many Funerals” acoustic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j64NXS9r2Qw) 5. “Sad” album version 6. “Tree Tops” live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcJrtfvy-qE) 7. “Ten Cent Blues” album version 8. “Over the Mountains” acoustic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbKr0W4HgB0) (a really great video) 9. “Better Love” acoustic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3rg45y7h3Y) 10. “Telescope Eyes” original version I wanted the list to appeal to a large number of people and to showcase the live-performance capabilities of the band. So, what songs would you guys put in a starter pack (or which videos)? _________________ Taylor | @thbrogan http://inconnumag.com |

That's a great list, I would add I Could Be There For You and I am really Partial to Memories and Winter Song I would have Swapped Golly Sandra in place of 10 Cent Blues because had that vintage Eisley change-up that was a Signature in their songwriting for a while. Which one are you calling the Original version of Telescope Eyes since there are 3 that I know of (maybe 4). The Moss Eisley "Matthew" version, the Laughing City EP Version, and Room Noises. The first I heard, and am still partial to is Laughing City's Version. Other than that, the Acoustic versions of Eisley songs are always good, but that might be a bit of a bait and switch if they (your friends and people new to Eisley) get the records or go to a show with that in mind, and aren't into the full band sound. I just say that cause I have friends who love anything that's spare and acoustic and are really snobbish about hearing anything that's got production sheen. To each their own, but yeah, if you know people like that, if they poo-poo on Eisley the Rock Band, it's their loss. That said, it's a top notch list, because those are top notch songs regardless of format! Well done! _________________ yup, that's my name. I used this version of Telescope Eyes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxGJ4gXtwMw And thanks! Yeah, I tried to get a pretty nice mix of acoustic and produced, but I'm naturally very partial to their acoustic performances, so the list favors those. _________________ Taylor | @thbrogan http://inconnumag.com |

please dont kill me if i was going to someone eisley i would NEVER show them any live/acoustic performaces. Eisley is one of those bands that are great when you watch them in person, on video, not so much. I wish I could pin down why, but I can't. But thats an opinion. Songs I would play for sure to prospective listeners hats (original) memories i wasnt prepared they all surrounded me invasion smarter many funerals and the lost at sea demo for sure (hands down my favorite eisley song) i actually made one for someone showcasing their whole career. but i cant recal all the songs. _________________ Wil's excellent description of me. wilsmith wrote: You're the Anti-Censorship+Topless Twitpic Parodying+Youth Group Video Directing guy that's a champion for the 1st amendment, Videogames as Art, and unrepentant file sharing... Yup, that's the Moss Eisley "Matthew" version, the OG version, back in the "rugged" days when they weren't so "produced", as if being "produced" is always a bad thing The leap in their songwriting is pretty impressive when you consider that was how they wrote a slow brooding song that swells into a cathartic chorus then, and Mr. Moon is How they write one now. That's an acoustic version, which doesn't explode as much as the full band version (Drums & Bass are awesome, good drummers & Bassists are awesome). _________________ yup, that's my name. If I had just ONE chance to make a fan of anyone, I would choose Mr. Pine from Ventura Theater on the Combo DVD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fEVTEMw7iM That song & performance showcase a bit of everything about Eisley: the great melodies, the terrific harmonies, a couple mood swings, the fantastical lyrics, and the band's collective muscle. So for me that must be part of any starter pack, the other 9 songs are gravy. _________________ http://www.twitter.com/drstrangeblog http://www.last.fm/user/getinline I can't find the time to write my mind the way I want it to read. |

To be fair they didn't release an official DVD because they didn't like how it all turned out right? I have Heard some of their live stuff I like. Again I mentioned on video. Watching them live is cool. _________________ Wil's excellent description of me. wilsmith wrote: You're the Anti-Censorship+Topless Twitpic Parodying+Youth Group Video Directing guy that's a champion for the 1st amendment, Videogames as Art, and unrepentant file sharing... Jeez, "Mr. Pine" has so much groove I think I pulled a muscle. The video quality on all that Ventura live footage makes me cry non-happy tears, but it was a pretty great representation. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |
