Wanting what's best for your partner or

"Love seeketh not Itself to please,
"Nor for itself hath any care,
"But for another gives its ease,
"And builds a Heaven in Hell's despair."

So sang little Clod of Clay
Trodden with the cattle's feet
But a Pebble of the brook
Warbled out these metres meet:

"Love seeketh only Self to please,
"To bind another to Its delight,
"Joys in another's loss of ease,
"And builds a Hell in Heaven's despite."

^ I'm not ashamed to say I first heard that poem in the form of a Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin song. (It's on their new collection of B-sides and rarities. Plug plug.)

Favorite stage: the afterglow
Function: to have babies and feel good
How to make it last: pace yourself

Wait, this isn't about sex? Shoot.
Jk.

I have many thoughts on love. I'll let you know when the book hot the shelves. In summary: love is a choice/action, not a feeling/thing.

The choice/ action view I can agree with.

Yeesh. You make love (the romantic kind?) seem like a vice. Its more like a major food category or nutrient. You'll probably get sick without it. Maybe a scurvy like condition on your soul.

Yeah, the romantic kind can be a vice. People get addicted to infatuation and hellbent on the perks of courtship, at least in the scenarios I've seen play out for the worse. Now bare in mind I am super jaded on romance, and have been since my parents got divorced and there was never EVER hope for reconciliation. That's why I suggested 3 polls, to cover the topics that relate to love, but aren't quite the same thing.

Honestly, the thread is sort of a meta joke:

A.) When Golly Sandra! pointed out that sex would be the next thread, I shot it down, but wanted to challenge myself to find an Classy Eisley-level way of talking about romance and intimacy. I got lazy and just came with Sweets instead.

B.) Given my attitude, and me being a Dude, I figured it would be funny to suggest/ imply Love, but then bail, sidestep, and not deliver.

it's not a funny meta joke, but there you go, inside my goofy ticker.

take that Steve Jobs! Emachines rule!

PS: David Garza - Let Me, not on Youtube but still http://video.klru.tv/video/1621959217/

The album version is just a cold blooded killer of a tune, but this acoustic rendering does it justice. Lubbock and TX outta be proud of this talented fellow right here, believe you me.

Golly, Poster

To justify its existence this thread would need nothing more than than the gum chewing, David Alan Grier looking, wink and smile at the top of the Dennis Edwards - Don't Look Any Further video. Never mind that it looks as though they spent more money on the tuxedo rental than the video production, its video gold. I desperately need the first 8 seconds as a gif file.

I can't top that but here is another an angst free love song. Mel Torme - Quiet Nights.

So long as we're on the subject of love songs...

http://songs.jonathancoulton.com/free/mp3/I'm_Your_Moon.mp3

One of my favorites. It was written shortly after Pluto was demoted to dwarf planet. It's basically a love song to Pluto from the point of view of its moon, Charon. Pretty creative, I think, and works as a nice metaphor.

I saw that on your tumblr and I like it, but forgot to "like" it.

"Better to sit at the waters' birth,
Than a seas of waves to win;
To live in the love that floweth forth,
Than the love that cometh in.

Be thy heart a well of love, my child,
Flowing, and free, and sure;
For a cistern of love, though undefiled,
Keeps not the spirit pure."

-George MacDonald

This poem is from the fairy tale Phantastes. It really challenged my concept of love a few years back. I tend to overextend myself, seeking love from others, when I should be creating love, and showing that love to others.

^ Your signature pretty much says it all.

You've gotta treat love like it was your child.

wil, re. 90's r&b love songs:
If I'm gonna listen to lovelorn old R&B tracks, its at least gotta be a bit more danceable, and for that you have to go back another decade.

I submit
Xena(aka lisa fischer)
Shannon
Aleem
etc.

Don't get me started on that... I was leery of humoring Tahruh cause it's opening the door to a "session" as we used to call em' when my and my friend would just trade songs back and forth and kill a good 10 hours playing music with no aim but sharing the goodness.

So yeah, good stuff. I broke my 90s rule anyways and dipped well into the 80s. I won't get into the club tracks, but here there are some great 80s synth based R & B jams that have one foot in the New Romantic stuff.

First, here's one a little closer to what you're getting at, but more on the R & B Side. I'll Be Good, Rene & Angela

Another Playlist of 80s R & B Love Jams

And now there's a topical poll.

I was almost going to say that I'm too lazy even for this, but you made it a playlist! BBL...

Also, died a little at "tennis score." Much too close to home.
