Having seen the Joy Formidable the night before at a different stage and being overwhelmed by their "wall of sound" (which was still crystal-clear), I was struck by how quiet the mix was for Eisley. In that setting, with competing stages not so far away, and all the 'fan' conversation and cross-talk, it's the one time I would advocate cranking it up to 11.

That is a bombastic two nights of music right there. As far as Eisley rocking stadiums, the have the material to pull it off, it's just a matter of tweaking the setlist to favor bombast.

well, there wasn't any problem w/ DC's sound, so maybe the band before Eisley was too mellow and they didn't adjust appropriately... still, the sound guy should have figured it out earlier.

and Wil, when TJF comes thru the Midwest again (and I know they will), you need to road-trip to see them if they play anywhere away from STL. You won't be disappointed. Live at Glastonbury 2011 on youtube comes closest to being there in person, though the sonic assault (kind of like I imagine My Bloody Valentine used to be) has to be witnessed to be believed...

They headlined here TWICE in the last year and a half and played an opening slot on a bigger show, I forget who though. Both times and venues where I would have probably been spitting distance from the band and at Eye-Level. That's awesome if you're going with friends and won't feel isolated and overwhelmed by such a loud intense band, but for me, that was too much to take in on a Weeknight (only the biggest bands, or the ones braving the off season or less desirable venues on nights where another major act is in town) get to play those prime Saturday slots here in the Lou, to generate that extra turnout push. Thursday are good, Fridays are better, but Saturday is gold. I have to be at work at 7:30am M-F so Weekday shows are especially brutal.

That and I would talk myself out of it because they were headlining on about an hour's worth of material at best counting the EP and LP, and sans another act I was dying to see on the road with them, I couldn't talk myself into full price for what was more than likely going to be a 50 minute set. I worked hard to come up with my excuses. Embarassed

next tour I'll have one less excuse because they will hopefully have doubled their repertoire and hopefully I will find at least 1 person who wants to see them within a reasonable transit (and I know reasonable is a negotiable term). I'm trying to think of bands that would make sense playing with them and most bands that once had that level of Umph with sweet vocals like that lost their mojo (PJ Harvey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Best Coast, Land of Talk, I even considered early Muse but they are a long way from Museum with their sound now). They are just a hard band to book in my head, I guess it would help if there were more material so I had a better idea of their scope and what they will ultimately be capable of. The kicker is, I don't really like Hole that much, but I can't shake the desire to see them play with Hole. I think of them, but in my head Miss World keeps playing. They need to cover that. Is Brody (Dahl/ Armstrong/ Homme of the Distillers) 's band Spinnerette, if it's still going, any good? If so, maybe them?

On the Subject of EISLEY & MERRIMENT: So I was recruited by playbackstl.com to do a preview for the Ours show next Saturday, and I haven't said anything, but was committed to an Eisley show preview (as an excuse to write more than what I was setting out to do with my Deep Space review, because it was honestly too much). I need to stop procrastinating & mentally disengaging and do it. I just wish I didn't have to promote the bands I like, and was just lucky to be able to get a ticket to a potential sell out gig, but hey, you've got to build that kind of audience on step at a time. Hopefully I knock it out the box. I took two days off work so I could be assured to have enough energy and time to not worm my way out of attending either show! That's my excuse for a legit vacation.

Was there for both shows (Eisley and DCFC). Have to agree with the review. Sound was muddled for Eisley and sounded good for DCFC. But all the same, was a good time. DCFC crowd around me smoking a lot of pot. Ehhh, whatever, kids will be kids, right? Hottest July 5th on record for the City of Milwaukee, 3rd hottest date ever for the city of Milwaukee, but it wasn't too bad at show time. And Summerfest let us bring bottled water in, so we didn't spend a fortune. But anyway, have to say thanks to Eisley for making their first Summerfest appearance, and hope you can make it back. The crowd was swaying some to some of the songs. I think it was good exposure, despite the sound problems.

It looked gorgeous up close too. She played it the whole show except for one song and the encore

Laughing that was off the cuff. Complete freestyle. True stream of consciousness. If there's one thing I don't do, it's execute prepared thoughts.

Laughing you've raised the bar. Sherrickenbacker is a stroke of genius in my book. Didn't see that one coming at all, seriously.

So Garren's play a G-Bass & when Stacy plays on Sad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLmxEVa_FSI she's using's Sherri's custom guitar which would be called a???

I give up, though I hope the answer has epiphone in it since that's my favorite guitar ever. I do know Stacy could have a King Korg keyboard if she wanted (yes, close but no monkey cigar). BTW, Tony LaRussa? Seriously??? What rock did they get him to crawl out from under? I thought we were rid of Mr. Happy...

and I'm still trying to figure out the brilliance of Mary Tyler Moore Tyler Moore Moore Moore (how do you like it, how do you like it?) Besides Steven Tyler, and with gay marriage, there's also Bonnie Tyler and Roger Moore, so the possibilities go on... Makes Paula Abdul Abdul Jabbar kind of pedestrian in comparison.

You're on a roll there Smile it's a telecaster style body from what I can tell via the vid, so though it's a Larose original the body style is Fender. Epiphone does Gibson stuff, so... maybe if you catch her with a Les Paul...

I think she had a red hollowbody she used last May for just like we do which could have been a gibson or epiphone?

Speaking of worsmithing here's a link to my feature length show preview for the Eisley show in St. Louis Thursday http://www.playbackstl.com/music/profiles/11610-eisley--family-resonan ce

It's also on the front page of http://www.Playbackstl.com with other new articles, just so ya'll know it's not buried.
