So this red velvet thing must be trendy now, or what (I'd be the last to know)? I'd never heard of it before a few weeks ago, and I've been to two events in the last week where somebody had made one.

So is this new (or newly popular)? Or have I just been living in oblivion all these years?

OH LAWDY... Embarassed

Red Velvet cake is old.

I once ate an entire leftover Red Velvet Cake from the holidays, over the course of a week because no one would eat it. (now that I think about it, I had it in the sealer tupperpare casserole dish they brought it in and initially took it to band practice & basically Begged my bandmates to eat some, and no one would. It was a good cake and I didn't want to see it go to waste, so soldiered on like Homer with that sandwich)

It's really most, and has an odd tangy flavor. I basically Brewster's Millions 'd myself on that cake.

I think with all this love for Cake Decorating, pastries, and especially CUPCAKES Rolling Eyes they are pretty much emblematic for the moistest most flavorful of sweets, bold and smooth.

Ha!, Johnip beat me to the link.

I'm gonna be honest though, before that holiday season (I can't remember if it was when I was in high school or during/ after i came from from Truman State) I had never had or heard of it. I can't remember if my mom or one of the extended family members cooked it, but it was an old fashioned home cooked cake, sheet cake style.

I am still queasy when I think about it now.

LOL.

It's only the best ever. Make sure you get an auth. one though, made with beets + cream cheese frosting.

^Cream cheese is not the authentic frosting. It's actually a flour frosting made on the stove top. It's the best way, imo. However, I still enjoy it with the cream cheese frosting because, well, cream cheese is amazing. I haven't had it in a while since I've been eating healthy, but boy, do I sure miss it!

How. dare. you. Razz

I didn't know that though. I was just thinking of the ones that have that nasty, sugary, fake icing.

this is a creation of my own. red velvet cookies with cream cheese icing. really good, but heart attack worthy. i can only ever eat a few, and then i give the rest away.

-edit-

i usually store them in the fridge for a bit after applying the icing. helps the icing harden and let the cookies stay together.

Haha! In row 1 It looks like a few of your cookies are having conversations and on the far left and right they are Red Angry cookies Laughing

Red Velvet is a fairly new thing to the UK. It's only just hit it big in the last year or so once the cupcake craze hit our shores.

I kinda love it, but I hate when our supermarkets / cupcake making places make it with super buttery buttercream. No, its cream cheese or go home.
