This post is probably in the wrong place...sorry. I have edited my original post, and will instead ask a question.... The People's Choice Awards are about popularity.... the Grammys are awarded for the "Best" music of the year in each category, voted on by the music industry themselves....artists, producers, engineers, etc... artists judging artists, if you will..... Next year, when Eisley's incredible debut album is nominated for several Grammys, will they win because people think it was GOOD.....or will they win because they have lots of industry "buzz", and hopefully, lots of "sales". I'd like to think the Grammys are still given based on talent and artistry...but judging from the winners tonight, i have severe doubts.... Evanescence? White Stripes? since when were either of those albums Grammy-worthy? No Doubt? Metallica? there wasn't anything better than THOSE ? That stuff's not BAD...but is it worth a GRAMMY ?? C' mon....a GRAMMY ???? the best of the best ?????????? Has Clear Channel invaded the Grammys, too ????? I am shocked at tonight's "winners". It is sad when, to me, the highlight of the evening was a live performance by Outkast, and i dont even like that style of music! |

The Grammys are always fad-based. They carry no weight, save for maybe some short-term sales. But I do like the Outkast album. Not the best of the year, but good. I hope Eisley does get a good, solid nod, though. That would be a good step toward making those awards worthwhile. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

So much better than last year....where bootilicious bom-bom wagged it's nasty tail nonstop. Coldplay was the only redeeming feature last year. This year, at least they gave credit to many pioneers, Coldplay won best song of the year, Foo Fighter played...I thought Justin's performance was amazing... it didn't suck so bad. And, the Outkast record is brilliant. I'm not traditionally a fan of this kind of stuff...but dude, the record is a creative masterpiece... Jazz?! omgosh. He's so diverse. Kyle, whom I have the utmost respect for because I know him personally, surely peaks my interest....makes a bold supposition that Eisley would be up for something in a year. In a word: woah. That is such an amazingly daring notion... I have to confess, though I think they're amazing, my brain lock won't allow me to go there. So many bands never even get near the radar of the academy; I don't think Eisley is someone they'll embrace....do you? They're certainly no Evanescence. And, of course, you'd also have to be predicting some Gold or Platinum record. I think Eisley is a different kind of band...not some broad, new, metalish, modern rock band stepping right into Creed's shoes; how many records do you plan on them selling? Still, I like your optimism Kyle. boyd _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. I just want to clarify one thing....i think Eisley is making incredible music. the important thing is not Grammy's, or record sales, or stardom. It is whether or not the band is happy doing what they do. I will be happy if all i ever get to see is Eisley playing at Curtain Club( a tiny club in Dallas) for the next 10 years. But that probably isn't a fair statement to make...this music, and the band who created it, deserves far better than that. |

seeing how its a debut, im sure it will do good, very good for a bands debut, but i dont really think a platinum record. but most (good) bands dont go platinum on their first debut. maybe something like coldplay, whereas parachutes did very very good but a rush of blood to the head really catapulted them.. unless eisley makes a catchy song like "milkshake"..i could see it now.. |

EP2 should have won a Grammy. In any case, the Grammys seem to be based on who catches the most press in a given year. I can think of a few dozen more touching and meaningful records that came out this year by bands who are only "moderatly successful". Thats popular music for ya. I think the reason some more innovative acts won this year is because that seemed to be the pace of music in 2003. Coldplay practically toured every acre of the US, Outkast put out an amazing concept album, rock acts dethroned pretty faces in regards to high grossing tours, it was a better (but i dont dare say good) year for popular music. all eisley has to do to get a grammy is die! just have the whole band get in some tragic radioactive accident. then they'd all get cancer. then they could record a tv show about they're last months. and record an album. that would insure them a grammy. wait. forget the grammy. just stay alive and write good music for those who care. like us! yay! _________________ squeakn squeak |

i love Christie. And agree with her... the marching band and injuns with sequins made me laugh. What a fresh breath of creative air. The intelligence of this thread is very high. I want every thread to be like this... So true...Eisley will never put a grammy in the middle of their Target. Nor will they seek to be a part of the culture that supports it. I don't think Coldplay set out originally to win Grammy's. They just wanted to write music, be in a band, make great records, tour. And, I agree with something else... this record is just a debut. There's not a huge amount of pressure for it to sell b'zillions. Eisley wasn't signed to be an Avril... nobody watched them and thought.."automatic cha-ching". Nobody wanted to take them and put them with hit song writers. It is what it is... they said, "this is real"... all they need is a chance to grow...naturally, with no pressure. So far, that's been the story. _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead.
