I'm a newbie - first heard the band on MTV2 a few nights ago. Bought Marvelous Things today, and I was wondering what groups have had the most influence over the band? I've read that Boyd played a lot of Beatles when the kids were younger, and that Chauntelle was into Radiohead. But what other bands do the girls and guys look to for inspiration? Boyd, have the girls ever listened to Cocteau Twins? Eisley's sound reminds me a lot of them - the harmonies, the ethereal quality of Stacy and Sherri's voices, the full and often discordant sound. I'm also wondering if the group has been exposed to Robyn Hitchcock at all? If they enjoy good pop sensibility combined with surreal lyrics, he's the one to listen to. Anyway, the music is very addictive - can't wait to hear more. Looking forward to hearing how maturity effects the band's sound and writing. |

I'm not in the band but as a musician, i'd like to partially answer this question... i cant say all of my favorite bands have influenced the sound of my music, that alot of it is subconscious. I'll just play somehitng that sounds cool and not really think about "Hey, i kinda know where that came from!" ALthough i defintely hear radiohead in eisley's msuic, which is totally alright because radiohead is the best band on the planet.... besides eisley of course. _________________ |

Others have talked about the Cocteau Twins...but the band only heard one spin of a cd in reference to someone's inquiry. Influences...dang. Radiohead freaks. The Beatles Kent Rufus The Shinns Coldplay Travis Neutral Milk Hotel Death Cab for Cutie Pink Floyd Jeremy Enick Ryan Adams Beach Boys gosh...help em out guys. I can't think right now. That doesn't scratch the surface. Thanks BlockheadJr. _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. The Beach Boys are a must for anyone interested in meaningful pop. Thanks for the shortlist, Boyd. Congrats to you and your family for the success. I highly recommend you download some Cocteau Twins. Their most mainstream single was Heaven or Las Vegas, but that's just scratching the surface. Elizabeth Fraser does amazing things with her voice. Boyd - was the music you and your wife played (when the kids were young) mostly rock? How about alt-rock? Any punk or jazz? Thanks for indulging me. |

ok...I know my kid's will kill me for this but..... these were also on the list: The Judd's The Forester Sisters Carol King Robyn Paisley Sara McLachlan Shawn Colvin Ella Fitzgerald Billy Holiday tons of their mom singing with them and dancing with them in our living room! They would have to fill in the rest. |

Thanks for the extra tidbits, kimbr. Are you and Boyd musicians as well? I'm kinda wondering if that's where the kids got their impetus to form a band - or is this a first for your family? And how in the heck do you find time to raise a family and manage your kids' careers? And home school? And work for a living? Do you sleep? Can I have a little sample of your stamina? I could really use it. |

Boyd is a drummer I am a vocalist. Boyd and I were drawn together by music, so naturally, our family was all about music. As far as all the other stuff you asked, we just do our best to keep it all going. There have been plenty of hard, dark times, but tons more of beauty, and pleasure. Boyd handles most of the day to day stuff now with the band. I'm here with our other kid's. |
