i keep hearing how "tiny" tyler texas is, how "tiny" is it exactly. Boyd said somewhere along the line that it had 100,000 people. That's not tiny! i don't even see my home town of 15,000 as tiny, it's mediocre. Somebody give me all the facts here.

Compared to a lot of the towns in Texas, Tyler is pretty small and out of the way.

I'm board-haunting today.

"Tyler is a city located in Smith County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 83,650. It is the county seat of Smith County and is situated in East Texas. "

Thus sayeth the encyclopedia.

83,000 is correct. Basically not large, but it's the largest East Texas city — which doesn't mean a lot. My hometown of Longview (maybe 40 minutes away — which is fairly close here) is 73,000 people. I grew up in another nearby city of 10,000. I laugh whenever I hear "tiny town of Tyler, Texas." But to call it large isn't being honest, for sure. And the people act like small town people (since East Texas is mostly composed of empty space, trees and small towns). So, go figure. Confused

right... especially, as someone said already, in comparison to the other texas cities. (i.e. dallas, fort worth, houston, austin, san antonio...?)
