so, we all know the story about how it was originally moss eisley then changed to eisley yada yada yada. however, the city in star wars was mos eisley, not moss eisley, so why'd they stick the second s on there?

they prob. didn't think george lucas was gonna care if they added the extra s. then they though about it more and thought that it sounds too much like "mos" so they just deleted the moss from the name and just stuck with eisley... i have no clue, hahaha... oh, or maybe they had a hidden meaning, you know being big apple fans! they put the extra "s" for "MOSS" as in OS 9's MOSS... Mac OS Startup Screen. ahA! sherri must be apple's #1 promoter! lol... again i have no clue, good question though

at first, they were Mos Eisley, but then they changed it to Moss Eisley cause they were afraid of being sued by George Lucas
then they just erased the "moss" cause they were afraid of being sued by Kate Moss

and that´s the true story of the band´s name

just kidding Razz

I think it was because there already was a band in England called "Mos Eisley".

I've seen lots of people misspell it as Moss Eisley... Perhaps it was originally a typo that Boyd didn't correct before sending the band's merch to be made? So they were stuck with all this merchandise, and it all said "Moss" instead of "Mos," and they figured, Heck with it, this stuff cost too much money to replace. We'll be Moss Eisley.

And that's the true story.

They were originally Revenge of the Jedi, but then George Lucas called them personally and said that Jedi don't mete out revenge, and all their merchandise skyrocketed on ebay.

I think the extra S was to change the pronunciation. Because Mos Eisley is pronounced like Mos Def. Long O.

Just making sure somebody sees this thread and tells us the real answer.

I remember reading a looong time ago that they liked the texture of the word, more so than actually wanting to name it after a STar Wars planet. I think it was about the moss being earthy and green and all those things that Eisley love so much, and Eisley was pretty and feminine without being girly or...something. It was a long time ago.....
