I eat moderately healthy. No cokes(soda for non-Texans),

so the eat healthy posting made me think of this:
http://www.popvssoda.com/
This site only includes the states, but I'm interested in what the world has to say.

Where I'm from, its coke. It doesn't matter what you drink, if its carbinated, its coke. We'll say 'I'm going to get a coke,' and come back with a sprite, and nobody even notices.

a soft drink is a drink that's not a hard drink, ie non-alcoholic, think about it, why did soda (which is what i call it) explode during the 1920's? prohibition! couldn't drink hard whiskey, had to drink soft drinks from the soda fountain (which is what they're called you know, which is why i say soda)

"soda", or perhaps "soda pop" if you want to sound retro.

But if you call it "pop", you're just wrong. That's a nickname for a parental unit, or a noise - not a soft drink. Very Happy

Golly, Poster

I once ordered a "soda" in a cafe in Ann Arbor, MI and the guy asked if I was from New Jersey. I guess pop or soft drink is what we are supposed to call it.

yeah...I always called it pop, but now that I live in Ann Arbor with all these east coast cats I've started calling it soda. People in this town get angry though if you aren't down with their lingo. I think it's just the defensiveness of college students mingling their cultures.

Occasionally I say "right?" to indicate that I'm listening because my Californian friends do it....I'm annoying myself

I don't make many references to it because I hate carbonation, but if I did, I'd go with pop just because it confuses people to hear a soft drink being called "pop" these days.

With cause, actually. Not only is carbonation crappy, but it sucks.
