http://www.mtvu.com/music/the_hot_seat/?artist=eisley found it when i was looking around on the site. it's a short interview but quite a good one inasmuch as there are no questions like 'what's it like being in a band with your family?' or 'what's it like being homeschooled', or 'when did you guys start writing songs?'. that's always a plus anyway, i haven't seen it posted on here before unless i missed something, so here it is: Quote: Tyler, Texas might sound more rodeo than Radiohead, but it happens to be the birthplace of some of Thom and co.'s most ardent admirers--Sherri, Stacy, Chauntelle and Weston DuPree. Deciding they'd like to make some dreamy, otherworldy pop of their own, the then-underage siblings hooked up with longtime neighbor Jon Wilson to form Eisley almost a decade ago. By 2003 they were opening for Coldplay, and now they've just released their major label debut, "Room Noises." We convinced middle sister Sherri (she sings and plays guitar) to brave mtvU's Hot Seat and give us the 411 on stripping cops, The Beatles and fun with paintballs. Q & A with Eisley Q: Tell us about your craziest touring experience. A: We were on tour with Brand New towards the end of 2003. It was the last show and we were all hanging out backstage when a cop came in and said there wasn't supposed to be any beer backstage since some of us were under age. Even though we weren't drinking he said he needed to see my ID and I started to get it out when he just handcuffed me, and then I realized it was a hoax because someone started playing loud, sexy music on a player somewhere and the dude started taking off his shirt and dancing around me. By then of course everyone was standing around laughing because I was handcuffed by this old guy and pretty freaked out. I somehow got my hands out of the cuffs and Stacy and I tried to run for the door but the guys in the other bands pinned us in. I threw some punches. We finally got out and ran. Apparently the Hot Rod Circut guys set it up. At least that's what the Brand New guys said. They didn't seem to want to fess up to it. I think they were telling the truth though because Jesse looked like he felt pretty sick after it was over. It was pretty sick. Q: What type of college class would you most want to take and why? A: Something in writing or maybe English lit. I love writing and I love reading. I brought like 12 books on this tour we're on now. Of course it is nearly three months long. Q: What city in America is the most fun to visit and why? A: New York! It's such an eclectic city. I thought I hated it at first. But everytime I went back it grew on me more and more. I guess also because I'm from such a small city I would be automatically drawn to one of the largest. I thought New York was all city and cold and steel, but Long Island is so beautiful and I was wrong about the city as well. Q: What's some of the best advice you were ever given? A: I've never been given good advice. Just kidding. That's ridiculous. Who could say that? "Don't take life too seriously." I always try and remember that. It keeps you grounded because nothing matters but the people you love and who love you. So...life's a big joke!! No, I'm kidding. Q: What's in heavy rotation in your mp3/CD player right now? A: The Decemberists, "Picaresque" (it comes out March 22); Lovedrug, "Pretend You're Alive"; Mew, "Frengers" (always); the Soundtrack to "Amelie"; The Beatles, "Rubber Soul." Q: The last good book you read or TV show you're addicted to. A: "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. His writing is amazing. He's my new favorite...after Ray Bradbury. Q: What's the first concert you ever saw? How was it? A: That would have been Wynonna Judd. I was psyched out of my mind because I pretty much worshiped her. I must have been 9-years-old. She was my hero. Q: What are three items you can't live without on tour? A: Hand sanitizer, books and Airborne (that cold medicine stuff). Q: Who are your major musical influences? A: My own personal ones would be The Beatles, Radiohead, The Decemberists, Deathcab For Cutie, Bjork. Q: What random messages or tips would like to give to mtvU watchers? A: Go get one of those $5 dollar sling shots and a buttload of paintballs. The New Found Glory guys and us have just disovered what joys these two items together can bring...just be wary of any sort of type of security guards as they don't seem to find them at all amusing. _________________ "dial" in Welsh means "revenge". If a welsh speaker enters an English phone booth, having paid the coin/phone card the next command the l.e.d screen throws at the customer is "revenge!" thus setting the tone for a confrontational conversation. Buttload is a great word. Metric buttload is even cooler. Thanks for posting the interview. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

Quote: I somehow got my hands out of the cuffs... I KNEW she was a magician... Quote: Q: What's in heavy rotation in your mp3/CD player right now?
A: The Decemberists, "Picaresque" (it comes out March 22); Music pirate!! Also, i'm glad Sherri likes NY. That made me happy. And that Decemberists mention dates it back to March most likely. |
