I used to call this message my “State of the Forum Address”, but “state of…” addresses are generally given by leaders or some sort. I’m nobody important, so I figured I should change the title. Friends and members of Laughing City, It’s hard to believe that this place has been in existence for over 3 years now (it turns 4 in November). At lot has changed in that time, but this place has remained the same… aside from small changes in layout or great changes in size. Since last January, when I made a similar message, membership has grown about 105%. The previous year it had grown 97%. It’s almost doubling in size yearly! Will we have 17,000 members by this time next year? Who knows? Perhaps one of the things that keeps drawing members here is the unparalleled (as far as I know) look behind the scenes of one of our favorite bands. Where else can you find so many detailed accounts, images, audio clips, and videos about a band? We get interesting glimpses into life on the road, in the studio, at photo shoots, etc. The new journals have also allowed each band member to provide his or her own thoughts. We were able to witness: the release of a new album; tours with New Found Glory, Hot Hot Heat, Switchfoot, and solo tours; a video shoot; an engagement; Austin City Limits Festival; jeez… and tons of other things. Of course, this place wouldn’t be worth anything if the community itself was worthless. With the rapid growth Laughing City has experienced, it’s bound to have its share of trolls and overly overzealous fans. For the most part, however, it has remained the place I first joined. It is still filled with people who are friendly and helpful and generally respectful. Heck, if it weren’t for this forum, I wouldn’t have met my wife. So maybe I’m a bit biased. Anyway, thanks again for another good year here. And thanks again to Eisley for another good year of music. _________________ "If you're a ninja, every day is like friday." -Jamie M. |
