Well, save for the (soon-to-be-destuck) Gregor post, the two remaining stickies are meant to serve as entry points into the General Forum. This forum is sadly becoming known as being unwelcoming to new members (as I've heard from many people). I normally discount that as people who are uneasy about joining in in the first place, but I really believe it these days. We could stand to be more inclusive and welcoming to people. That's why the names and lurkers threads are there. Lets new people learn people's names, and lets older people have an easy way to find their names. And the lurkers thread is to pull people out of hiding.

The reason I started this thread was to see if maybe the photo thread could serve in a way similar to the names thread. So far it's a pretty clean split on the opinion, but it's proving to be educational.

I don't think it should be sticked. The reason for that is that it gets new posts fairly often and thus sits relatively near the top.

That said, I am attracted to the idea. I've had to search for it a couple of times. I think if stickifying it does help welcome new members, then there's no harm. That's the only plausible reason that i can think of for stickifying it. If it doesn't and it just gets messy up there amongst the other stickies, could we unstick it?

yes. in theory.

Stickies attract horrible things like mystery hair, slimy fingers and other tremendous upheavals of my disapproval. I vote Goo-B-Gone!

It's been around too long... let it die (though I'm certain it never will)

Right now things are looking too split. But I'll see how the final hours go.

How's this? Among people who have joined this year, or who remember what it's like to be a newbie here: Did you/do you ever find the current stickies to be useful? Did they and the "introduce yourself" sticky help you break into posting?

I have never paid attention to stickies on any forum. Ever. Only once have I seen a useful sticky, and it was when a member of the forum died and his brother came on and posted the news.

Stickies are only meant for really important things, like the Gregor news... the only way people will pay attention to them is if they aren't always there and lame. I couldn't even tell you, off the top of my head, what the current LC stickies are.

Yeah..

I think a picture thread as a sticky would be ok if everyone just posted one picture of themself, or if it was a list of all members and pictures beside themselves, but not for a giant 500 page monster of random pointless conversations and lots myspace angles and mirror shots.

Good points in the last two posts.

I think the Announcement threads are more for news things, but I'm mainly just trying to see how and why things are viewed the way they are. Definitely paying attention ...

Oh, and thanks for the input.
