Your opinions please-
So I'm considering buying Tommy by the Who, but I'm not exactly sure whether to or not; it's been hailed either as brilliant or pretentious by all Ive heard about. If so, is it worth buying in CD form? (If I really like an album, I consider it CD worthy. For example, I have all eisley and Neutral Milk on CD)
Thanks.

Tommy is a great album, but I'd say if you don't have any albums by The Who, go with Who's Next. It's by far my favorite album of theirs, and one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Tommy has some really magnificent stuff, but it's also filled with some rather sup-par songs as well and it's really long. It's kind of like The White Album by The Beatles. I know a lot of people freaking love that album, and I do to, but it's the only Beatles album that I have to skip some songs on. Who's Next is like Revolver. It is a masterpiece. And if you know the songs already and want a truly magnificent live album, get Live at Leeds. The Who is one of the best live bands ever, so of course a live album from them will be great, and Live at Leeds truly is.

I would say give it a listen first. But it can't be too much money, so take a dive, or grab another Who album. Or something else entirely ...

Who's Next == loved that album back in the day. What the other poster said was all true. Get Who's Next on CD. I would say no to Tommy. It has it's moments, but Who's Next is a good album start to finish (if I remember right, it's been awhile).

You should get Tommy, but Quadrophenia is better.
