I know! I've never been a huge Nicole Kidman fan, so I was okay with them not getting the deal. _________________ "I cannot discuss your verses; for any attempt at criticism would be foreign to me. Nothing touches a work of art so little as words of criticism." -- Rainer Maria Rilke |

I think the only thing this thread proves is that there is no single solution to Eisley's exposure problem. Film and TV soundtracks are great--Grey's Anatomy did wonders for Brandi Carlile, for instance, and who would have heard of the Moldy Peaches if it weren't for Juno? But for every person who wants to see Eisley get a song on a film or TV soundtrack, there's another person who says it's not enough and what Eisley really need is an album that can end up on some elitist music magazine's best of the year list. And for every one of those people, there's someone who says what Eisley really need is a hit single. And for every one of those people... well, you get the picture. They need all of this stuff. Licensing, a killer album, commercial attention, a more lo-fi aesthetic; you name it, Eisley need it. And in whatever proportion, whatever combination of all this stuff, can we at least agree that Warner Brothers isn't doing any of it? _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

an almost surefire way for attention would be to have someone sing an eisley song on american idol. this is nearly impossible, however, and would probably piss off a ton of the hipster fans. you're welcome for that useless contribution. _________________ |

you're welcome for that useless contribution. I'm jumping off the boat if that ever happens. Of course I'm joking, it wouldn't be Eisley's fault, I'd just feel sorry for the song for the butchering it would receive. As an aside, that amusingly reminds of when during the Eisley show Sherri invited the crowd to sing along with "I Wasn't Prepared" if we knew the words. I thought, yeah right! Take one of the hardest songs to sing and set it loose a capella on the crowd, that's a train wreck waiting to happen! Final thought, I actually like - even PREFER - the 'bigger' sound Eisley has developed. Of course I enjoy the EPs, but the sound is more quaint and twee, whereas with the bigger production they get to express the depth and scope of their songs so much better. I think it completely suits their music and ambition, but that's all in the ear of the behearer. _________________ http://www.twitter.com/drstrangeblog http://www.last.fm/user/getinline I can't find the time to write my mind the way I want it to read. |

Are you asking what makes me think they could find success with movies and shows? no, only this part of what i said referenced your statement. why do you 'think' WB tried to get Eisley's Invasion in the movie? as far as i know, it was always said to be a coincidence. _________________ I am Torgo. I think someone asked about getting a song on the movie, and maybe someone said it wouldn't work? Anyway, it's good because Eisley doesn't need to be in a crappy movie. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |

It was no coincidence and no rumor. Boyd blogged about trying to get on the Invasion soundtrack several months ago, just a paragraph or so on how they got turned down for it. It was lame, but by all accounts the movie sucked so it's not like they missed out on a huge opportunity. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

I wasn't going to go back through all of Boyd's journal entries from the Combinations archive, so I looked up "invasion" in the search. I came across this: http://www.eisley.com/laughingcity/viewtopic.php?t=30357&start=0 boyd wrote: They tried... pushed it, walked it right in... they were super psyched about the opportunity; they even talked to the director... I understand they like the song but just don't feel it works for the movie. tsk tsk... at least Craig and WBR team tried. i wasn't bummed... not sure why.
I guess Eisley's "Invasion" will either have to have a radio life of it's own without the help of a blockbuster movie... or if it has no radio life... then... we'll find life somewhere else. Hey, i could make the album art look just like their poster; that way, we could trick millions of the fans of the movie into thinking this is the sound track!! yes!! We'll get even somehow. jk. _________________ "I cannot discuss your verses; for any attempt at criticism would be foreign to me. Did Sherri know that the movie was being made and then wrote the song in hopes that it would be used, or did she just happen to read the book and write the song and then the film came along? oddly enough Thom Yorke also wrote Bodysnatchers - though i don't remember when they first mentioned having a song named that between HTTT and the In Rainbows sessions. _________________ I am Torgo. it would have already been announced by then. i'll ask the writer. if she doesn't answer, i won't lose any sleep - it would just be an interesting thing to know - for me anyway. _________________ I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away. |

Ha, I think it would have been possible in a technical sense, but I'm pretty sure the song was just born of reading the book. _________________ My photography:www.jamiemphoto.com You can't spell awesome without emo...backwards! -Julie definingawesome (11:44:11 PM): Eisley shivers our timbers |
