They have been playing Ultralife a lot on my go to station up here. When I heard it I thought it was another group I liked, but I'm blanking on who I thought it was. Great song.

They have been playing Amsterdam by Nothing But Thieves here. They must have a new album out or pending huh?

The link for the Carousel Rogues video is set to come in a minute or so in. That tune sounds like Eisley + the Cardigans on Life!/ Emmerdale. I guess they are leaving the guy+girl vocal thing in the dust? Hard to believe that was six years ago.

I know I've dug an Everything, Everything song before, and the 2nd half of the verses of this tune really well arranged (to my tastes), but his falsetto is going to take some getting used to for me. Sort of like with Chris Martin, they have the notes, but my ear is more sympathetic their tone in their lower registers. Their harmonies as excellent too.

On the pop side there's lots of good stuff, but the one that surprises me with how much I liked it straight away was the new Pvris single Winter. Definitely an 80s electro-pop throwback that does Depeche Mode proud.

I'm liking Pvris -- hadn't heard them before, so thanks! They should go on tour with Chvrches.

Yes, Nothing But Thieves has a new album out. "Particles" may be my current favorite song -- some truly powerful vocals on the chorus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJtFu7ivB70

I was wondering if NBT had possibly released in the UK but not hear because I haven't heard much hype about it. There were pretty hot for a while there and played a way larger venue than I expected when they even bothered to come to St. Louis. Honestly it feels like routing St. Louis is a waste of money for most bands that aren't playing large theaters or arenas.

Pvris & Chvrches are a couple a quite a few bands with common names trying to skirt trademarks with spellings. Isn't their Cvlts too? I purposefully allow myself to forget those bands cause I end up wondering how good could they be if they couldn't come up with a name? Then I remember that I actually listened to the rapper Paris in the early 90s, obscure as that is.

Anyways, Pvris have been hit or miss for me. I've liked a few songs starting with My House, but when the album came out there were some very paint by the numbers songs that made me feel like it wasn't worth it.

Oddly I heard this band, Heirs, not long after I first heard Pvris and found out they were connected.
Like Pvris, I like some stuff, and other stuff I'm iffy about.

Their previous band Love Robot sounds more like Pvris in some ways, in some cases to such a degree that I wonder if the members who were said to have been romantically linked didn't work on music together or at least influence each other directly during that time.

Heirs remind me of another band you actually hipped me to, I'll let you guess which one. Wink

I thought the explanation for Chvrches was that they were originally called Churches, but then realized that no one could successfully google their name without seeing a bunch of, well, local churches. Smile

Heirs seems cool . . . but not fair asking me which band! You and I have both been on this forum for about 9 years, so it's hard to remember all the bands we've discussed! That said, maybe you're thinking of "Now Now"?

I can hear a Now, Now comparison, but I heard Thread outside of the forum, not realizing there were fans here, so I always credit my knowledge of them to Thecooltv where I saw the video.

Of all the bands you have shared, the first one I recall noticing was Deas Vail. Maybe you mentioned other bands before them and I was already familiar with them, but Shoreline is the song you posted that got my undivided attention.

I don't hear the Shoreline comparison at all! Smile But at 10 seconds into the video you linked, I do hear Now Now: https://youtu.be/aUxfnCfZOQg?t=2m18s (2:18 into that video -- chord progression is basically the same, same guitar sound, and it's even in the same key).

Oh, I didn't mean that particular song, more the vibe of the group stylistically, straddling the line between melancholy pop and indie-emo-type midtempo rock.

Now, Now I've always thought of as more of a Shoegaze indie rock type band. It's more of a production value thing than anything. The prominence/ of the distorted guitars and aggressive drumming in the front of the mix. But you are dead on about the chord progression. It's the difference between angst and introspection when I think of their sounds. Deas Vail is introspective and slightly melancholy, Now Now is angsty. Heirs I see as introspective as well, but more melancholy.

If we're sticking with bands who substitute V's for letters in their name, check out Alvvays. They just put out a new album in September.

Loving this too. I don't keep up with all these different genre names, but wikipedia says "otherworldly cosmic-pop" - good enough for me!

RIP Last Album I Listened to thread.

Last time I was here it looked like threads could stay longer without being replied to before going in limbo. Guess I was wrong. I was curious to see if I could see what I wrote about Beck's albums over the years. All that must be in limbo now.

Is it even possible to resuscitate an old thread like that? And is there anyone even maintaining this site any more? (The "Latest News" links end in 2009, so no one has done basic maintenance in several years . . . )

I'm pretty sure the only decisions that have happened in recent years had to do with removing the Journals section and removing the link from Eisley.com

I recall Bd actively mentioning the decision to leave the site here for posterity for the time being, but given the infrequency of use and the general good nature of the contributions moderation is seldom needed.

The Laughing City has become one of those retirement communities where the residents have their own apartments and are self-reliant, so nurses just sit in their booth and chit chat.

Why DID they get rid of the "Journals"? Those were great. Even just the archives.
