 Post subject: question for boyd/eisley....Posted: Fri May 14, 2004 11:01 am 
it has been fascinating learning about how the recording process works through keeping track of eisley's progress in the studio. however, there is one question that comes to mind: i know that there were negotiations of sorts regarding which songs would make it on the album, but do you guys now have some strong say regarding the order of the songs?? being an aspiring band member/song writer myself, to me the order that songs are placed in is pivotal to the presentation of the album as a whole, and its definitely true of many artists/albums that some songs are written a posteriori of some general envisioned tracklisting. i know this first LP isn't that much of a unified concept album, but i was wondering firstly: to what extent do you guys have a say as far as the tracklisting goes? (i feel its possible that labels would sometimes want to make the hit singles appear in the first couple tracks), and secondly, if you guys do have a tentative order of the songs in your minds, could you spill the beans on some of it pretty please??? even a detail as small as saying: we were thinking of so-and-so as the opener/closer, or we want these A-B-C songs in a cluster... that would be awesome. _________________ "You're my favorite person." - David Carradine, Kill Bill vol. 2 |

i agree..........tracklisting, album length, etc......is very important. it seems like you're an "album" enthusiast like myself _________________ I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away. |

I seriously hope (and expect, for the most part) that the band and Rob will have a good deal of control over these aspects of the album. Like bigideas, I'm very much an "album" guy--I hardly even ever listen to single songs anymore, actually! It'll be interesting to see what the Eisley crew does, this being their first full-length... Very good questions! |

Great questions. Yes, the band has a great deal of say on the songs, the track order, etc....but certainly Rob is powerful and is a great advocate for the band. ("in one corner...Rob Schnapf and Eisley!!") No, but, management and A&R both weigh in. They're pretty sensible on theses issues. Sometimes, we' burn cd after cd and listen over and over to see how it builds or sets. Everybody does that and weighs in... they'll say, "ok. here's an idea....try burning the cd in this order and listen; see what you think..". Sounds pretty much like regular people just working in a creative environment. This whole process has been like that. Even when people dissagree, it's still very sensible; not like Eisley against the machine...though sometimes it's hard to know how to frame the context. This certainly IS eisley and the machine talking to one another. But the machine seems warm blooded most of the time. We'll see won't we. No discussions yet about the song order since every song is feeling of it's neck and gulping a bit... wondering if they'll be the first on the chopping block. No way to talk song order. well, if it's any help.......i think OK Computer and Kid A are two of the best sequenced records...........on of the best back to back song combos of all time has to be Climbing Up the Walls to No Surprises........Thom's scream combined with the climbing strings cut to a glockenspiel (of all things) i think Rob and Elliott sequenced X/O very well. _________________ I am Torgo. oh dear yes, KID A is the perfect album. i guess we'll get to see tracklisting soon enough... presumably production and all should be done by mid-late june anyhoo. i hope that this hiatus followed by some more time in the studio doesn't move back the prospective release date too much. my typical experience waiting for a band to release an album is torturous as i watch the release date get pushed back month after month. us fans should start the coalition for eisley record to be released by sept.1 the latest  _________________ "You're my favorite person." - David Carradine, Kill Bill vol. 2 |

I wonder too...like you... When will it be? Too many pieces to the puzzle to solve: Will they write new songs? Will they be recorded? If so, drums also have to be tracked. Will they record the last two still waiting to record? Will 2 of the songs be redone by Postal Service's producer? (If so, drums also have to be tracked). How long will any or all of this take? All I can tell you is WB wants this record out. They want it out in early Fall at the latest.
