I find it interesting that conversations on religion are quelled, but politics are an ok topic.

Politics can turn just as confrontational. It just takes a little quote like "If a girl gets pregnant, she *is* a mother, whether she is ready or not" and the climate gets a bit warmer.

Not that I'm causing controversy, or anything. Confused

Actually over the history of the forum there have been a few "religious conversations" that were not closed or required any intervention.

Politics can be touchy with people, but not always as much as religion is. So far this conversation has remained pretty calm, so there hasn't been any need for intervention.

If there were a topic started about abortion, yeah, that would probably get nasty fast, so it probably wouldn't be around for long.

Anyway.. it is a case by case basis. A politics discussion has just as much possibility of being "quelled" as a religious discussion.

I voted libertarian in the poll, by the way. Woo, one of the 3! (so far)

Casulties always happen in war. I wonder how many people died during our countries Civil War? Probably alot, so do you wish we hadden't have done it? Or world War 2? I mean, this will help the future of Iraq!

Be sure to remember that next time you're in a war. It's easy for anyone to sit at home and call casualties of war something to be expected.

Uhh, I'm sorry. We obviously have different beliefs. I just think, just as many people or more would have been killed by Sadaam Hussein. And this will help them.

I'm a leave me alone, and i hate taxes guy, but i like highways and enjoy the great benefits of living in this free nation that used to honor God...and I wish pushers and pimps and murders and rapists would all be nice, but
they won't so locking them up helps a little, but doesn't cure the problem
so, in Texas, we kill those who kill and some people get really pissed
over it, but not the surviving family of a daughter who was raped and
stabbed 21 times and left in a ditch...and i don't like politicians and don't
trust them because their lips move and they pat babies on the heads...
and i believe the US didn't survive by being whimpy push-overs...or
"can't we all just get along's"...and Hitler is dead but not before he did
that little holocaust thing...and 10's of thousands of Americans didn't die
in vain fighting for our freedom... for defending the defenseless...for
liberating captives - though it's not popular anymore...and it seems as if
liberals just want us to mind our own business and let the bad guys do
their thing...(on planet earth) and oh...but we provoked them into flying
jet airplanes into our buildings...so it's ok...and conservatives want a
happy war economy and don't care about the poor and homeless...and
politics will never fix the hearts of men...never legislate morality...and
people aren't getting better... look around...we're in trouble. Government
isn't the solution. History repeats itself. Nations fall.

Off the record, Texas has best highways in the US. Arkansas has the
worst, but that's not why I wouldn't want to be marooned on an island
with either of those guys. I'd rather have McGyver and Rambo.
Perhaps I'm a McGamboterian.

I keep reading over this thread and I've yet to understand why people hate Bush so much, so please someone spell it out to me so I can understand.

The economy can't be expected to be that great when we're in a war
I know the war is a big issue with people, but that wasn't just Bush, or just Republicans.
He may not be the greatest public speaker, but he's not stupid he did go to Yale.

I'm not going to say he's the best person in America for the job, but I just don't see what's so terrible about him. I don't know why anyone would hate him, what has he done to you personally?

actually our economy is having the biggest incline we've seen in a while
it just dropped so bad because of 9/11 nobody realizes we're going up
generally during a war time the economy gets better because we as a
nation are actually working together, and we do a lot more work.

First off, Florencia is my hero! Cool

Secondly, I think it is good to discuss politics, it is what governs our daily lives and what makes our society work. I really don't like debating religion though, because I find that to be a personal matter, and people don't need their personal religious beliefs bashed. With politics, it really effects all of us whether we like it or not, which is why I don't understand people not voting.

And lastly, we could talk all day about issues like abortion, or how Bush is a moral Superman (or a satanic anti-eviroment whore depending on what issues matter to you), but unless you're actually informed or know the issues, it's really pointless. I just think it's strange how people can think of Clinton being the devil because he got serviced in the oval office, but Bush gets a "get out of jail free card" when he tries to drill for oil in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge (The man lost 317 million dollars in three failing oil companies because he couldn't find oil in Texas...in Texas ladies and gentlemen).

I'm not saying Bush is a complete idiot, no one is a complete idiot (though I think he comes close), but I could get into an Ivy League college too if my daddy was a Congressman.

oh well....hooray bush

i didn't think to put socialists on there because i just picked the four main parties of the us. but gore was pretty much a socialist. go read his book, then compare it to a lot of carl marx's ideas. it's freaky! Shocked

SWEET! It'd have been awesome if then the actual elected president would have been in office...you know?

Embarassed Rolling Eyes

There are about 20 national newspapers that looked at all the votes afterward and every one of them came to the same conclusion, Bush did win. He didn't "steal" the election, and the funniest thing about the whole "crisis" was that the so called butterfly ballot was actually developed by a Democrat. In Florida the party that controls the county is in charge of the election, and the counties with the most problems were Democratic counties, so is it really the Republicans trying to gain votes, no it's just complaints and sore losing. But that's enough bickering for me. I love everyone!! Laughing
