Rumors have been going around that the band Muse sort of took off where Radiohead left off. Meaning Radiohead doesn't really do rock music like they used too. So, do you think Muse is the next Radiohead?

(sorry if this really doesn't have much to do with Eisley. They are fans of Radiohead though.)

This is definitely a thread for the music forum.

For what it's worth, I tend to resent when somebody calls a band "the next" anything. Heaven knows if I were in Muse, I wouldn't want to be compared to Radiohead, as wonderful as Radiohead is. Saying that any band is the next Radiohead, U2, or whatever, is an insult to the individuality of both bands mentioned.

Also, I don't think Muse is as good. Wink

To me, there can only, ever be ONE Radiohead.

Just like there is only ONE Beatles.

Don't worry about misplacing the thread. It happens sometimes.

no big deal. Wink

Most of you know Muse is my favourite band on earth so here goes...

Muse are NOTHING like radiohead apart from the fact they are all english.I get so sick of lazy media who try and pigeon hole a band and making out they are just copying a "popular" band.

Muse have been together since the guys were 13 years old as (rocketbabydolls),granted they didn't start getting noticed until the mid 90's but lets also remember radiohead wasn't a huge drawcard until the release of OK computer which was also mid 90's

Ive seen both bands live and they are by far the best two live shows i've ever seen, but for different reasons...Radiohead are all about the show, the effects, the lights, the video screens and the whole 'wow factor"...Muse on the other hand just rock the living crap out of a crowd like no other band and no matter how long they are on stage for, they always walk off with the crowd wanting more.I walked out of both bands shows speechless, literally speechless.

Both bands are tight and completely deserve their due credit....not to be compared to one another.

I really don't think they sound like each other. The vocals have a resemblance to one another in the pitch of the voice, but there really is no great comparison between the two.

i really like the new record.

i was super into the band about 3 years ago... but the subsequent record/s
sounded like a rebaked version of the same...sporting and uninspired,
limited pallet of sounds and melodies... all whiny and dark... I'd heard so
many bands that reminded me of them...the used, buckley...etc. BUT, i
wanted to like them... This new record is VERY good. The melodies are
more soulful...happier. the tones and musicianship have always been
amazing. They are a great band.

I think it's a fair question and, I have to say, there are Muse sounds that
overlap with R.H. Even the vocals.... but not in an imitative way. Sorry.
go give it a listen. You'll agree.

I'm a fan of both bands & listen to both (especially muse) constantly but I can't see the comparison,I really honestly can't.To me they are two completely different bands with different sounds, the only thing close to a comparison for me would be both Matthew and Thom have a tendency to "whine' a bit in their vocals (in a good way)but thats where it ends.

I really can't accept that some people(not really anyone in here so far) assume that muse are trying to copy radiohead in some/numerous way(s).Anyone who has seen both bands play live would surely agree they are different.

i absolutely do NOT believe that Muse is trying to copy RadioHead. To
whoever made that observation...that's not fair at all. I was only saying,
their voices have a similar tambor... sound...at certain times. It's not
even an important observation. I'm becoming a Muse fan again. Dead
serious. The new record.... yes.

I'm glad we agree somewhat Boyd & I wasn't pointing anyone out in this thread,I'm used to being in this debate as it's easy for the media and people who don't know BOTH bands well enough to assume,y'know?,I see a similar sound when both thom & matt scream or go high but thats it for me like I said before.

Absolution is a fantastic record but i also adore all their earlier work as well.Ialso love their b-sides...Lots of their b-sides I think other bands would be proud to use as their a material,I guess there is another similar thing with radiohead(who also have amazing b sides)

have you seen them live Boyd?I highly recommend it if you havent and if you ever bump into the muse guys steal matts wallet or something for me Wink Laughing
