while they may have influenced the beatles, they did not write the beatles music for them. they are not the beatles, and therefore not the greatest band ever, as the beatles are.

very true.

no one will ever do what they did. they were pioneers at "rock and roll" as we know it.

its just amazing to think that they were one of the first, if not THE first(band(s))...the beatles did a lot of their own influencing, how can anyone say they are not influenced by such a great band?

I like Elvis. Up until he stopped rocking and became that ridiculous Hollywood movie star. Pick up a copy of "Elvis' Golden Records Volume 1" or "The Sun Sessions"; that's some pretty rockin' stuff if you ask me.

In 1960 he went into the army and when he returned he just lost it, he has no longer the performer that he was in the 50's so he decided to make movies.

As far as I'm concerned, Elvis didn't die in 1977, Elvis died in the army.
But when he was great, he was truly GREAT.

the beatles are by far the best band to ever grace this beautiful rock'n'roll that is our lives. i could listen to them for days at a time and still find something new in each song. beautiful...

i'm not voting. however my opinion is, the beatles i love them but i think they released a lot of complete nonsense. if you want nonsense go listen to ealry floyd syd barret was a legend and their nonsense was way better than the nonsense released by the beatles. and they continused to release good music following the demise of mr barrat. so in conclusion the beatles released better music overall but floyd, imo released some classics to. wish you were here beats any beatles song hands down and was written about syd barratt. well thats my nonsense over for the evening.

ps its amazing how drugs influenced many bands of that era, and yet we still find the music some of the greatest ever written yet wouldnt really care to be involved in the drugs scene.

the end

hehe it was late and no sense is made by me at that hour.

my point was both floyd and the beatles released some pretty weird songs, i just liked the floyd ones better. however as a band the beatles were far more successful, not necessarily better though.

oh and the thing about drugs: most ppl on hear, i assume are against them, as am i. however the music that we listen too from the 60's and 70's is very much influenced by drugs. that was all.

hopefully that wasnt as much nonsense as my previous post. Very Happy

well i think to truelly understand the music, particularly ealry floyd stuff you'd have had to have taken drugs yourself, and in particular LSD. as i havent then i cant say that i fully understand what he was writing about. lets face it, i dont think syd himself knew wtf he was talking about, hence the reason he has been a recluse for more than 30 years.

yes agreed a little nonsense is good. it kept me sane during my exam time anyway.
