I can't stand this band. That guy's lyrics are pure nonsense. It's a bunch of junk strung together as if it's supposed to be poetic and meaningful, but it sounds so amateurish and formulaic. All the energy in the world doesn't matter when you are playing a genre of music that has saturated and homogenized itself into ... well.. into bands like Thursday, that take the easy parts of 10 years of "emo" bands and fill in the blanks like mad libs.

lol funny you say that.
i really REALLY love braid and the promise ring, but then i hear bands like spitalfield and how they're so heavily influenced by both those bands and they get bad reviews.
that i don't understand... well i don't understand it fully.
they may not be amazing (their lyrics don't come CLOSE to braid), but i do give them credit for going out and trying to do something good... i mean they're not senses fail, but they're getting reviews on about that level.

as for thursday, i never realized how much i liked them until i looked through all my cds and realized i owned all of the cds (well, not the demos, but the 3 full lengths and the ep) they've ever put out lol.
i've managed to collect most of the b-sides through mp3s and comps i've bought.
so i guess i can say i'm a fan.
as for geoff's lyrics, i do think they're poetry, but i think it's more rhythm than thought.
he's definitely going for "emotional effect" and something that fits into the song rather than meaning, more often that not, but i have read interviews with him where he explains some of his lyrics, so they actually do make sense sometimes.

I agree with you.... if we're talking about the Mars Volta.

Now THERE's some nonsense lyrics. (Rowing sheep smiles for the dead? Three half-eaten corneas?) Still like them, though.

i think that they have some of the best lyrics out there. like i said earlier go listen to jet black new year. go listen to "this song brought to you by a falling bomb" really go back and listen to anything.

the way i see it is it doesn't have to be new and original to be good.

i read a review once. something to the effect of:

"if you enjoy bands such as braid or embrace, you will be happy to know that thursday does too."

i thought it was funny.
