In my opinions Brits have way better taste in rock in general, and Eisley's melodic nature seems to fit right in on the ranks of Coldplay, Travis, Oasis, etc.

By the way, the dad comment was great, Boyd.

um, yeah, prodigy rocks. and so does hardcore punk.
...

and kylerossp, after reading what you said, i'm not sure you entirely disagree with but a few people that have made their opinions known. i repeat, when you say that a band is "good enough to be on the radio" or "better than what you hear on the radio," first of all, it's hardly a compliment to anyone in this audience, and secondly, it is a very vague encouragement. please endeavor to think of a better way to glorify bands you like.

your little suggestion that we support good music so we can hear it on the radio is cute and all, but it's obviously quite ineffective since by supporting the bands, we are buying their cds, and then why can't we then just listen to them ourselves? also record stores that mean anything to labels, for the most part, do not sell cds in which we are interested, so even while a band may have a huge following, they do not make it on the radio. still, that is not a big shame.

Prodigy isn't rock! Anyway, I'm sorry, perhaps "rock" isn't the right term. In any case, I'm speaking about bands like Radiohead, Coldplay, Travis, Bjork, Oasis, Blur, Ash, Grandaddy, BRMC, Polyphonic Spree, etc. These bands have more "cult-ish" followings in the U.S., the U.K. mainstream tends to give these bands a little more attention.

I think Eisley will be much bigger in Europe then even they imagine....

Pretty much the same for me really; 'cept I missed the soundcheck and found out that they're siblings from the V program. Oh, and I possibly ate more jellybabies! However; "fundamentally" it all seemed to happen in pretty much the same way as the aforementioned; but then again, the fact that they have such a cool father really is the cherry on the icecream. (Or springles if you prefer.) Anyway the music was just suited for a Saturday morning; and probably had the best lyrics I've encountered in a long time - and I'm sure amazon will provide me with the Laughing City EP. Thus, in conclusion, I believe that, fo me, Eisley have reached success (in my personal books) due to a great sound, a cool father, and the fact that they didn't scare me like the guy from the Darkness does. Thanks for the show.

A lot of people do not realize that Eisley have been writing and playing shows continually for 5 YEARS...............despite their young age, they are
quite experienced. It's not like they are some novelty invented by a record company last month! They are talented, and success is coming because of that talent, and a lot of hard work.

Someone did not understand what i was saying earlier.....
I never said "we should support good bands so we can hear them on the radio"....that's silly. Everyone knows radio (in the U.S. anyway) generally sucks, Clear Channel (among others) has ruined it.
Some of my favorite artists are never played on radio, and never will be, and are far more successful than most bands will ever be, WITHOUT any radio airplay.
I will restate what i was trying to say:
Why do certain people consider it "bad" if Eisley were suddenly thrust into the mainstream, and WERE played all day long on radio or MTV?
I know my support and appreciation for them would not change, because i enjoy their music, and buy their CD's.....so who cares if they are on the radio or not ??? If they DO get a lot of airplay, then......what ??
Will you stop listening to them ? That's ridiculous.

It wouldn't surprise me if certain people who post negative things about Eisley on this forum are musicians in bands that suck, who are jealous of Eisley's success so far....and try to console their failures by saying "oh, Eisley are only getting noticed because they are young, and girls, and a family"..... instead of admitting that Eisley are talented, and realizing that their own respective bands are NOT being noticed because they suck. Perhaps those peope should be practicing your songwriting skills instead of complaining on this forum about others' success, and worrying about whether they are a "novelty" or not.

If you like the music, then listen, and buy the CD's as they come.
If you don't like the music, then do not. Very simple Smile
I'd listen to them even of they were 100 year old polka-dotted 5 legged space aliens! I don't care WHAT they are, or are not....their songs are very good!

Right, but don't buy the CDs if they're gonna have this new encryption thing the RIAA is trying to get pushed through so that people can't "steal" the music. Because that technology is a HORRIBLE idea. Smile

[/slightly off topic]

that's why it's all about the intenet radio feed. check out WOXY if you're looking for a great radio station that has a really large internet feed with an international reach Very Happy. they're actually how i first heard about Eisley. here's their current rotation http://www.woxy.com/play.shtml
although it's not your typical rotation as songs in heavy rotation might get played only 3 or 4 times a day - if that.

their top 10 requested songs of the past week:
1. FRUIT BATS When U Love Somebody
2. MUSE Stockholm Syndrome
3. THE DECEMBERISTS Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect
4. A PERFECT CIRCLE Weak & Powerless
5. DEATH IN VEGAS Hands Around My Throat
6. DAVE MATTHEWS Gravedigger
7. THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS FEAT. THE FLAMING LIPS The Golden Path
8. HOT HOT HEAT Talk To Me, Dance With Me
9. OVER THE RHINE Show Me
10. WEEN It's Gonna Be A Long Night

they station is aimed at people 18-35, generally speaking, and not the TRL crowd, so you're gonna get more disciminating tastes in terms of music than most stations. check out the most recent listener top 500 ( http://www.woxy.com/mr500_03_1.shtml ) or the top albums of 2002 ( http://www.woxy.com/bestof02.shtml )

but they've got a great selection of tunes they play, and so far I've been able to successfully request the Ramones, Flogging Molly, Eisley, Belle & Sebastian, & Muse. they even played the ramones' "The KKK Took My Baby Away" which is a song most stations won't go near Very Happy

anyway, check em out, and if you ask nicely, I'm sure we can get them to play Eisley some more! Telescope Eyes is currently in light rotation. studio@woxy.com you can also request songs directly through their site, too. like i've said, i've already successfully requested it a couple times.

for kylerossp

first of all, the topic is eisley's success, why they would make it into the mainstream as a successful band. the topic is not why did ONE PERSON buy their album. mainstream radio is about a lot more than the music, which i'm pretty sure everyone on the board likes.

secondly, i personally don't remember anyone saying they don't want eisley to succeed, but i'm not well-versed in the goings-on around here. your points about people not listening to eisley because they are on the radio are based on a non-existent premise. your points about a jealous teenage band are completely ridiculous and based on a non-existent premise. i am interested, though, if even the members of eisley want to be a mainstream act in the states.

I started this thread, and I don't recall stating anything about "mainstream success".

i personally could not stop myself from liking any band that sang melodic music about dragons and trollywoods and was as whimsical as eisely. i don't know. they could be a bunch of fat guys with beards (which they are if you only look at jon and weston, except for the beards, for that you must look at sherri)...

I don't know that I agree with that. Give me names of teenage bands that sound like Radiohead. In any case, if Eisley does sound like Radiohead, it isn't quite the Bends era like everyone else does.

really dude the comparison to radiohead is thrown out nearly any time someone uses falsetto or hits an accidental. people are getting better about it these days, though, and perhaps it was just in my area (south carolina). and yes, you're right; people say 'radiohead' when they mean 'radiohead - the bends;' again, saying a band sounds like radiohead can mean a lot of things.

Quote:
I don't know if that's true. Mainstream radio certainly doesn't deliver original or sincere material, but it is of high studio quality and the instrumentation is flawless thanks to computer editing.

what i meant when i said that it means nothing isn't that the radio will put anything on, but i highly doubt that the listeners are evaluating microphone placement, tonal qualities, and strumming/picking methods. sure, all that is done perfect, but when a band is presented on the mainstream level, there is more to it than a catchy song with a lot of younger listeners.

Quote:
I don't doubt Eisley are a good band that are writing good songs and will win fans on that alone. However, you can't disagree that been a teen/family group gave them a slight push, if ever so.

heh, you're right. i can't. i said it earlier. perhaps you were not directing that comment to me, though.

i personally believe that Eisley's success is only slightly enhanced by the fact they are 4/5 family...or girls.....
i believe a more prevalent factor is their age, and obviously their talent......record companies see it like this:
young and talented = MANY years of making money.

there are a lot of "sister acts", and a lot of "young acts"....but, a young AND truly talented act, like Eisley, is a harder thing to find.

PoliceHQ says "your points about a jealous teenage band are completely ridiculous and based on a non-existent premise"

not true...and definately not completely ridiculous.....sorry for being a little more "broad" in my commenting....while this thread had not specifically addressed the issue of "jealous bands", i have seen, on several occasions on this Forum, negative posts which very pointedly show they are from jealuous musicians, and i have also heard such comments personallly at clubs while watching Eisley shows. Since the topic of this thread was "Eisley's success', i thought i would say those things, as i felt they went along with the topic. I believe it is a common response for bands who do NOT find success, to place incorrect focus on something like "they are blonde girls" or "they are sisters" when wondering why they are not getting attention themselves, rather than admit they might be making inferior music.

I also wanted to state that i was NOT implying that the author of this thread, TheEnvyCorps, was a jealous musician....the first post of this thread clearly states that TheEnvyCorps was not attacking by bringing up this subject of "novelty and success".....

ok, then if you have heard or read someone say it, it makes sense. i hadn't seen anyone in this thread wanting eisley to be unsuccessful nor discrediting their abilities in favor of their intricacies.

of course noone has brought up the point yet that a band has to have a lot of LUCK to be signed. inferiorority in music is often the case, but just randomly being heard by someone that counts is also important. there are plenty of awesome unsigned bands.
