i don't think you can name one band as the greatest. there are TONS of bands that have done things never before done. Elvis, the Beatles, and Radiohead are among those bands but how can you pick the BEST? i guess it all depends on what you like to listen to

ugh, I just went with Led Zepplin, mainly because it's the band that I love to hate. I just gotta throw my hat off to a band that can evoke passions of both hate and love for their songs. "Rock and Roll" has got to be one of the best straight up rock songs ever written. and LZ had such a huge influence on so many of the rock bands that followed. not sure if Nirvana would have done the things it did if LZ hadn't blazed the trail.

it's a pretty great list of musical trail blazers and it's unfortunate i could only choose one, instead of splitting my vote

I was just saying that the other artists wouldn't have sounded the same if it weren't for the influence that the beatles and elvis had on them therefore making it kind of impossible to say that the other bands are better considering that would probably sound very different or not even be making music if it weren't for the beatles and elvis.

perhaps the question should have been asked in terms of influence or something.

but just because a band comes first and breaks ground doesn't mean it's the best.

the model-T was was one of the first cars built. but asked what's better - a model T or a porsche 911, I'm gonna have to go with the 911. heck if i had to choose before my pos (but very lovable) volvo 240, i'd take that - and all that is a brick on wheels. if the question is asked about influence, then a much stronger argument can be put for the model T. granted the example has its limitations, and Elvis and the Beatles have loads of talent. but the basic point is that just because it came first doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best. sometimes it's a really great thing to let someone else go ahead - you can learn from their success AND you can learn from their shortcomings.

All the bands are great but for me it has to be Nirvana as the best. I like all of the bands but Nirvana has influenced me personally the most. ali[/list]

Good point, BUT: the beatles were the originals and they are still the best. No band has matched them since, a few have come close, but none are quite there.

It depends on how you define "greatest." I say it's a tie between The Beatles and Nirvana, but then again I also think that My Bloody Valentine should be on that list as well.

Now that is just unfeasible....How could I choose between Zimmie and the Beatles...?? Alas...It would have to be my main man Bob Dylan...but *sigh* the Beatles have a special place in my heart as well...as do many others on that there list...yep yep.

Erm, and why isn't Kid Rock on that list?

Ok, ok, lame I know. My personal favorite wasn't on there, so I guess I would have to go with the Beatles...

I sense a touch of sarcasm is your tone. At least I hope so! Wink

My personal favorite is Metallica, but I'd have to go with the Beatles as the best band ever. Even though I haven't heard many Beatles songs...
