How can we expect this board to be used correctly when people can sign up with the click of a mouse? Training is what I recommend in the form of a 10-500 page e-book and test at the end, making sure that the user is prepared to enter the realms of the Eisley board. umm... i might be inclined to go ahead and register a new name just so i can crap on the registration form. |

on a technical note - I noticed that some forums on other sites have a link that takes you to your first unread post in that thread. Is that feature available with this forum software? It would really come in handy, especially when we've got threads that are 150+ pages. mgm |

See that little icon " I would suggest that some sleeves get rolled up and the forums pared down a bit, especially moving ancient tour threads to an archive of some sort so that we newbies don't get all confused. _________________ Eric (the Deacon remix)

That icon just takes you to the latest post in the thread, not the first "new" post you haven't read yet. Sorry. I don't know of an efficient way to do that because the phpBB just tracks whether something new has been posted since you last visited, not the specific time of the first newest post. Trust me, sleeves are rolled up and big changes are afoot come February 8th. _________________ "The revolution starts today, not tomorrow." :: got g-Love? |

Sweet One thing I would suggest is an easier-to-read color scheme. You can stay easy on the eyes, but a little more contrast would be appreciated. *EDIT* Hmmm...wait. Quote: I don't know of an efficient way to do that because the phpBB just tracks whether something new has been posted since you last visited, not the specific time of the first newest post. I think I may have misunderstood what you were saying. Are you talking about tracking based on whether you've viewed that specific thread and linking to the newest post since the last time you did so, rather than the last time you visited the boards, since you may not have read that particular thread the last time you visited, and you want to start from where you left off 3 or 4 visits ago? If so...well, that's interesting, but the way it does it now seems to be much easier to accomplish technologically and in general makes more sense to me, as there are usually far more threads than I have a particular interest in, and if I do have an interest in a thread, I read it when I visit the boards. Or am I totally missing what you're saying again? _________________ Eric (the Deacon remix)

Heh, can't say I ever knew about that functionality. But then again, why would I expect two icons that look the same to have different functionality? What I was getting at is that it is session-based. If a thread has new posts this session, and you don't read it, next time you log in, it will not remember the new posts from your previous session. It will just mark all posts since your last visit time as "new". _________________ "The revolution starts today, not tomorrow." :: got g-Love? |
