Close.

That's exactly why.

My parents quiver in fear at the thought of me being in Deep Ellum at night ("too dangerous" says them).

I can understand their reasoning (taking into account the whole cruising problem out there), but at the same time I didn't get stabbed, shot, or horribly maimed when I went to Eisley's NTNMF show, so I don't see why going back would be such an issue. *shrug*

haha, it's not Deep Ellum to worry about! It's Downtown Dallas. There's a huge difference:
Deep Ellum:
No Homeless People

Downtown Dallas:
Homeless People

I'm tellin' ya, it's weird. In the skyscraper area I'm afraid to walk the streets in daylight even, but in Deep Ellum there ceases to be any at all, and it feels safer. Besides, it's Eisley! What could possibly happen? You could be found in a room surrounded by gypsies drinking tea? Surprised Gypsies drinking tea?! In rooms?! (hides behind safe open non-room-forming wall)

The corporate part with all the skyscrapers doesn't bother me. Heck, I used to work of Irving Blvd., and that's worse then BOTH of those areas.

And gracias for giving me another arguement against my parents to let me go. Very Happy

aww... sorry. that sucks fiercely. I'm trying to relate. dang. I guess if we
hadn't ventured down this long, dark road - starting in all ages clubs, and
graduating to club venues, perhaps I'd be pretty protective over eisley as
well. Then again, you notice that I'm always with them...at every show.

That's it! - Invite your mom or dad!

But seriously....these are all age situations. I'm told by Nettwerk that
there are 10 year olds all the way up to 40 something's coming. Anyway,
like you said, no one chopped your head off or cracked a beer bottle
over your head in Deep Elllum. The Tea Room is nice. ( i expect the
ballroom will be utilized) Nice wooden floors....it's not some shwanky
dive.

The thing about the indie scene..and especially this crowd - it's not about
drinking and partying much at all. It's basically just music lovers.

So...bring your dad. I know he'll like eisley, at least.

That's my arguement as well. Eisley never struck me as a band that would play to bars full of drunken buffoons.

And actually my dad was with me at the NTNMF show! (was the only way I could go) I remember him saying after the show that he really liked the set, so I can probably convince him to let me go to the Tea Room.

Thanks for the help Very Happy

That's not such a bad idea. My dad has accompanied me to concerts before. It wasn't because he was scared of me being alone (I was in my 20s and he's not THAT overprotective)... but because people bailed out on me at the last minute and he didn't want the ticket to be wasted. And actually... he went with me to Canton to see Eisley... just to get out of town and "hang out"... I suppose. He's a nice guy.

It never hurts to ask. I don't know how lame it is to have a parent along... but at least you'd get to see the band. And it's a chance to do some parent/child bonding... and maybe even discover you have a common interest (Eisley). My dad ended up liking the Eisley show a lot.

I lived in deep ellum for 2 years ( i just moved to Fort Worth about 3 months ago ). Monday nights in deep ellum are pretty quite, I'd invite your parents to come along, the Gypsy Tearoom is a pretty cool, dare i say, older-person club/bar, your parents would probably dig it heh tell them i'l l buy them an apple martini i think those are all the rage now.

Deep ellum turns into the wild west only on weekends really. This past summer was especially bad... even made the news I think, but its getting better. The city upped the police presense and that seemed to help... although i've seen the cops there break plenty of laws too.

There are people like Aden Holt of the buzzoven , I actually got to meet him at NTNMF, trying to get younger people into the local music scene in dallas and therefore deep ellum. It's a really good idea but I bet it's a hard sell to the clubs. They can't make any money on alcohol sales at an all ages show so they make up the difference in cover ( wasn't it like $20 to get in at the buzzoven show with Eisley at trees a while back? ). It really sux but unless you are >21 or at least 18 most of the local music in Dallas is just unaccesible.

Great comments.

i have to admit....my parents wouldn't have "gotten" the club scene...but,
isn't the generation gap dead? I don't have a feel for it. We don't have
any friends our age. They all wear slacks, loafers and remember the
good ole days of "skynyrd". It's sad.

But, I do think Eisley's music transends demographic barriers - epsecially
age and gender. Since Eisley doesn't promote anything but their
enchanting music... nobody really risks the snares of corruption by
association. Parents might think the lyrics are about drugs... Laughing
But they (i mean, mine) thought that about the Beatles.
