I played golly sandra for one of my friends that hadn't heard of eisley, and she did not like them because they thought they were some sort of bad, country/hawaiian band, at least that's what she said.

lol, yeh... that was more or less what my youth leader said (i just played the whole album [and on the spelling-bee note, i always want to add an l to that word: abulm)]. When it got to Golly Sandra, he said the band has a sort-of "Texas Twinge".

i suppose everyone who says that it's latching on to the individual needs of the people. The thing is, all of my friend's musical tastes are amazingly varied, so it's really difficult to find the right track!. Maybe the best solution is to just lend (nay, even buy) them copies.

(bar one of my mates, who only listens to heavy metal stuff. he appreciated Midlake, but didn't like it. another mate of mine just copies the aforementioned mate, so his tastes don't vary much).

Y4J, my mate did that to me.. he sent me a really quite mellow Slipknot song. i liked it, but not enough to buy any of their music.

I was hooked after hearing Marvelous Things, although after I listened the Laughing City EP, I recognized a few songs that my friend had played for me once, right after it was released.

When I try to get my friends into Eisley I usually play Marvelous Things, Memories, Just Like We Do, and Trolley Wood together. Marvelous Things & Memories usually gets my friends who are into more indie-type music. Just Like We Do gets the ones who like softer, acoustic music. And since so many of the kids where I live are pretty big on Christian music, Trolley Wood really gets them, because of the gospel-esque beat and "hallelujahs".

80% of them are pretty much hooked after that. Smile

What's the best Eisley song to introduce people to the band?

hardly anyone gives the band a chance cus i always seem to pick the worst songs! hurumpH! what songs have you people chosen?

Memories, Marvelous Things... pretty much anything on "Room Noises" except Telescope Eyes and My Lovely. Not that they're bad, but because they're more "normal", and showing it first may convince others Eisley is just another pop group. Which is why "Telescope Eyes" should've been a 2nd or 3rd single.

I haven't met one person that goes to my church that hasn't liked Trolley Wood. For everyone else, just show them a video of Eisley live, that way they know that this isn't another Ashlee Simpson lip-synching act (nothing against Ashlee).

The higher quality Vintage People / Tree Tops videos (both available on OGG) are good choices, and also the very recently released VH1 Live videos (Memories, Telescope Eyes, Marvelous Things) are awesome if you can get the video to work properly.

As said before, it's easy to group them with "everyone else" if you play something off the album that's more "normal" or mainstream, but you can't force someone to like them so don't be too disappointed if your friends have no taste in music... Wink
