i think room noises was fine. so the same (5?) people should mix the next album. but, i think that even though 5 people mixed room noises, it still shows amazing consistency.

I think this means that the band had a lot of input in how the songs were mixed. So, i think eisley should retain a lot of control over how their songs are mixed, cause its working for them.

They definitely need the control. That's one reason why I like Albini, he's almost more of an engineer than a producer, it seems.

I think Eisely should produce themselves. I've heard stuff they have done
and think it sounds better than what a lot of other producers have done. As long as they have a good engineer and Jerry to mix, it will have to be good.

But I don't think the label will entrust that responsibility to Eisley for another album or two if ever

Yeah, I'd say so myself (in fact, I think I did Wink ) But I think it's really weird the way labels can react to a band's work when it's not made within (the label's) specifications. *cough* YANKEE HOTEL FOXTROT *cough O_o

Anyways, I do think Eisley still have some issues to work out , as far as production goes. I'm a firm believer that unless you're a pop singer or you have a certain song that really needs someone else's touch to make it work (i.e: The Walkmen's "The Rat" produced by the guy who does Monster Magnet), you really only need one producer (or yourselves, if that's the case) to work on an album, as it produces coherency.

To tell you the truth, I was actually kind of weary upon hearing the fact that
Room Noises had five producers, including the band. And it does show how certain Producers can handle certain sounds and songs that others seem to sort of flop on. A couple of songs (I'm not going to name which) do suffer from occassional GGP (Generic Guitar Production), etc.

Still, all of these symptoms are pretty typical of a band's first major label release. (I mean , have you listened to Pablo Honey much?), and, in the end, it's the songs that count, and they're fantastic.

So....off of that rant
Embarassed

Thank you guys for indulging my nonsense for the duration of the poll. It's cool to see a board that can have differing views and not waiver from them, yet not start totally unnecessary flame wars. Shocked

nigel would be ideal. haha. to be honest i'd like to have a jon brion produced eisley record. he's the best in the biz right now, bar none.

yea, i think so too. come on, fiona apple's albums are remarkable. and i heart huckabees was great... jon brion would get my vote, but does he have a "five figure production cost that would be required"? and since jon brion's not a choice, i'd say mr. godrich.

I'm a firm believer in not messing with this magic.. and that is what Room Noises is.... magic... don't mess with it if it is working...

I've been through the process of making a record in a major studio... as artists we all want more control...especially artists that are this young.

but what is the final outcome, after all is said and done? in this case it was the best friggin record in 20 years. Why in the heck should they mess with that chemistry... Did the Beatles dump George Martin?

in later solo projects they can experiment with more control. this is a thing with being young.. you want to call your own shots, and it is still fresh in your mind : what it was like to be a teenager, and in control of next to nothing.

I hope and pray that they keep the team together. Look at the results and the reviews. Team Eisley. producers are a huge part of that team. change after a few more records.

I can see that. I'd be perfectly happy having the same bunch do the next album. Just because it's the same people doesn't mean they're not going to continue to grow. Good point. It's especially nice to have the view of someone who knows from experience.

i love room noises, but i definitely don't think it is 'magic.' i would love to see a different producer for each album, so that each album has a distinct style. sometimes a single producer is great for a band and captures their sound the best, but i don't think eisley has found that person yet.
