Ok, funny story. Most of my friends know that I'm given to a generous libation from time to time, but other than the bottle, I don't have any real chemical vices. But there was this one time... I was with my two best friends in Amsterdam, and we had travelled from our little hostel in the deep south of Holland to the big city for the day in order to spend several hours at the Rijksmuseum. Well, turns out the Rijksmusuem was all but shut down because of asbestos. We went into the one tiny wing that was open, but that only took up about an hour. We were walking back to Station Centraal, and I was like, "I didn't spend $12 on a train ticket just to spend an hour here and go right back." I mean sure, I've been to Amsterdam tons of times, but Chuck and Melissa hadn't, and I was going to make sure we did at least *something* that you can only do in Amsterdam (legally, anyway). So I said, "Okay guys, you know that everyone at work is going to give us hell if we say that we came all the way over here and didn't smoke up at least once." So, after a little deliberation, we picked at suitable looking "coffeeshop" ("coffeeshops" are where you buy your weed in Holland...NOT where you get coffee) and sat down. I had never smoked in my life, but Chuck and Mel had, so they went inside and "ordered." The girl at the counter reccomended this "mild" blend, they said yes, and the coutner girl rolled up this H*U*G*E spliff. And so it started, Chuck (puff puff), Mel (puff puff), me (puff puff). Then Chuck (puff puff), mel (puff puff), me (puff puff). And then I go to pass it again, and Chuck and Mel are both like "No way dude, we're *done*." At this point, about 3/4 of this gargantuan spliff is still left, and I'm like, "Well, screw it." So I proceeded to take down the whole mofo by myself. I finished, and I was waiting for the "high" feeling to kick in. I waited, waited, nothing. Basically, I felt like I'd smoked a big unfiltered cigarette...except with weird yellow smoke. Chuck was totally blitzed, and Melissa was acting a little silly, so I decided it was time to go home. On the way to the train station, we passed this huge Candy Store that's a popular chain in Holland (the stores are called "Jamin"). I said, "oh man, I haven't been in one of these for 5 years, we have to stop." So we went in, browsed and came back out. Each of us had in hand: -- a package of chocolates -- TWO ice cream bars -- some fruity gummy candy that I've never seen over here. All of a sudden I look down and see all these munchies in my arms, and I say, "Oh yeah, I'm toootally not high." We laughed, and laughed...and then ate every ounce of what we'd bought. I've still never tried weed outside of that one time...mostly because jail doesn't appeal to me, and I don't trust the dealers around my area to not cut their stuff with rat poison. However, I do think pot should probably be legalized. Like I said, I don't smoke it, so on some level I don't really care. But if you sat at a police dispatch board for one night and compared the number of calls saying "my husband got drunk and beat me" to the number of calls saying "my husband got high and beat me", I'd bet the farm that the drunk calls would win by a mile. And alcohol is legal, right? In fact, weed was legal during prohibition...when booze was illegal! Seriously, I met fewer stoners in Holland than I meet in one day here in the States. Just legalize and regulate it like you do liquor. Sell it in gov't stores for what it actually costs, and see how many street dealers are left. Only Advil or Tylenol whenever I have a headache. And when I'm really sick, my parents will have me take Nyquil. I hate that stuff. That is in terms of all things that are classified as drugs. I have never and don't plan on doing pot or anything of that sort, or the hard hard drugs. Although I do agree that the concept of a halucinogenic shroom sounds kind of funny. I heard about a guy that saw his hands as the paws of a bear and just sat there screaming at them. _________________ Thistledown |

I saw a picture of this guy that did ...his arms were disgusting. There were holes in his arms...they looked like swiss cheese. His muscles were showing through, and his skin was just like falling apart. Apparently, the dude was 40, but he looked like a grandpa. It was gross. And no, I've never done anything. basically my whole school smokes pot, and most of them do mushrooms or whatever. i haven't done anything and don't have a likely intention to. 2 of my best friends smoke pot but.. not like, religiously and they're not bad people. but i've been drunk before.

The come down was such an awful experience that I don't think I could ever try it again. Besides, I had to drink half a bottle of mustard with them just to get it down. All around, really stupid. As far as other drugs go, I've tried some things sure, but nothing that ever worked (I have a half developed nervous system... high pain tolerance and medications and drugs don't work well on me). Sometimes I drink.

The last time I did shrooms was the first time I really listened to eisley. The Laughing City EP and particularly "over the mountains" were freaking amazing... but the stomach pain, nervousness, and crazy thoughts that come with the trip far out weigh how good music sounds and looks, yes looks. I havent done any drugs since then, this was about a year and a half ago. I don't condone drug use, I'm kinda over it now but it is kinda cool to be in another state of mind for a little while. I'm surprised at the low number of people who have done drugs. I know lots and lots of people who have at least tried them. I can't believe this is a number that is representative of the population. never ever ever for me. luckily, although it is a problem at my school, i dont have to deal with it cause im not friends with anyone who does drugs or drinks or whatnot...well i am friends with some of them but they know better than to ask me to do any of it. the whole idea of giving up your control of your body to some strange chemicals freaks me out. plus, im straight edge. _________________ Julie Do you believe in something beautiful?
