nope. I plan on never drinking.
Just because my great uncle or someone...(i forget who) died when he drank too much and his liver shut down and all that stuff. So addiction runs in the family i guess, and i just dont ever want to have to find out if I'll be addicted or not.

I have had alcohol, but I wouldn't care if I never had it again. I just don't care for it. Plus, the same as Julie up there, my family has a history of addiction, and I'd rather not try myself at it. To each his own, just quit trying to push it on me, gosh! Laughing

i've been drinking since i was 16. i don't know if that will seem shocking to some people but where i come from it's nothing out of the ordinary.

i've had a couple of nasty experiences with alcohol, the worst being the time i got alcohol poisoning and almost died, had to go to hospital and be put on a drip etc. that was the most shameful night of my life and i still regret it. i didn't drink for a couple of months after that but alcohol is quite a big part of the society i live in. when i go out with my friends we all like to drink, mostly to get drunk. it's like a release. i know that may sound quite sad that i don't have any other ways to make myself happy but that's the way it is alot of the time. i'm sure if you asked most of the people i go out with they'd tell you the same.

I am disappointed that no one answered my earlier question, but oh well. Perhaps there is no answer.

I wanted to point out that the season finale of 30 Days aired last night and the topic was binge drinking. I think they could've done more with the topic. I got the point, but they didn't do a good job of communicating it. The girl who was binge-drinking couldn't even really face herself at the end, so instead she just didn't want to talk about it. She was not smart enough to realize that she was ashamed of herself. Maybe she will be lucky and never have to deal with any consequences due to her blackouts.

Interestingly (or perhaps not) you explaied the precise reason why I don't like to drink. Smile (thank you) I hate the idea of having a life which I need release from. Thus I try so hard to focus on leading a fulfilling life which doesn't need that kind of release. Most of my friends are exactly the same as your friends. My best-friend is the same but he uses drugs instead. I want to avoid that. I aim for a life that doesn't need that kind of release and I'm not talking about alcohol - it's exactly the same way my parents live their lives. They go on holiday to 'de-stress' from work. Everything they do in the evenings is not becasue they find it enjoyable or fulfilling but to de-stress. My mum always says she wishes she did creative writing but is always too tired after work to do anything but the house-hold tasks and watch tv. I'm not criticising. I fully understand but I want to avoid that in my own life.

I don't want relaxation spas. I believe that if you need release from your life you are not happy in your life and should change it.

Don't worry. It's just a strange personal belief that I have. Smile

If it is a strange personal belief then it is one we share. The day I need alcohol or illegal drugs to feel good is the day I check into the Betty Ford Clinic. Also, blacking-out is for chumps. Very Happy

well "alcohol" is a drug really. anything that can alter the mind and do..whatever it does..is a drug. it's only that it's legal. boo.
if they could just make it illegal and a great fine wouldnt there be less drunk driver accidents and physical abuse, deaths....
but now ill get a bunch of people yelling about me becuz they love the way alcohol tastes so much. or they just like to drink to get a little buzz. or to party.
well if u likethe way something tastes so much...try dr.pepper, or coffee, those are AWESOME! Very Happy
