That's great about Schapf. I met him years ago after a Mary Lou Lord show. Should be interesting. . . Boyd, what about this whole DC Music thing now that David is out at Nettwerk? Is there a chance of a move to the new label out of WBR with all the merger stuff going on? I think Bronfman is iffy. _________________ you said you liked my song and to prove the point you hummed along |

woah. an industry buff. i thought this was all off the radar. But since you spoke of it, I should probably post something about it. In the mean time, what do you know about WB merger? This could get juicy. somebody posted a yahoo news release about it on the forum. bd _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. I don't really like talking industry but I think working with the Bronfman group spells disaster. I heard International is gone and the consolidation of Atlantic, Elektra, and Lava seems likely. We were just speaking hypothetically, of course _________________ you said you liked my song and to prove the point you hummed along |

I agree about Bronfman. He's there to squeze dollars and just perpetuate the bad cycle the business is in: pump money into the manufactured acts, cut jobs/labels, leave everything else to the indies, hope the profits roll in. The Atlantic/Elektra merger is gonna happen. It's exactly what Universal did after its consolidation and Bronfman has to be looking at that as a model. And with their smaller labels, they'd better be looking like Lava very quickly or risk becoming nothing more than imprints. _________________ "It's the new golden fact." |

Semilit and Poorwriter - hmmm... good insider comments. I won't post the my findings on the forum, but today I sent email to our A&R (Sr. VP - works right next to Tom) inquiring as to the state of the Empire and inquired as to the rumblings of mergers/aquisistions, etc. On any issues that emerge, I'll go with pm's. awesome. bd _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. There are early versions of all those songs in the Collin COunty Community College studio archives. I ran across a few not too long ago while I was looking for something to display for the Wildflower festival. A very early version of "Telescope Eyes" and "Sleepyhead" They sound OK but they need to be mixed. _________________ If ignorance is bliss then whipe that smile off my face |

Hey Jeff. Personal favor...please keep those in the vault and/or return them to Eisley... analog!! yes!! warm, fuzzy... mezmerizing... addicting... hopeful for Spring. Hey...back to the other subject: why do you guys think Bronfman is going to mess up WB? From the top's view - they're now the only independantly owned major record label on the market... it's like Dreamworks boasted about being before getting sucked in and terminated by Interscope. And Bronfman is a music lover...a songwriter, etc. himself. Tom Whalley is entact...so is our A&R, who renewed his terms for another long contract, etc. (now Sr. VP) So....at least for now, the empire looks fairly sturdy. Rumors still flying that EMI might STILL suck up WEA. Eisley is ok as long as our A&R is ok. He's ok as long as Tom is ok. no worries. ever. And, I'm intrigued by what your department will be able to do... dude, I would love to have dialogue about record promotion. Please PM me or post it right here... (i think he's gone, ya'll... _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. This must be a boring thread. Well, it's good that folks on this forum really are just into the music... not so much - producer changes, manager changes, industry changes... all boring stuff... I must be weird. I'm intrigued by both. bd _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. Well, I don't really know much other what my friends in the biz tell me (some of them left WBR a few years ago for greener pastures). We like the label, it's just that they're clueless and that goes for major labels in general. Whalley is a good guy though. Really down to earth and a 'people person,' which is how a lot of big media conglomerates are trending. I've never met your A&R but Aaronson has a good track record so I'm not worried so much about that than how you're being promoted. . . As for the little promotion project, it should start early next year although we've been actually doing it for about 10 years. It's just that it's more official now. _________________ you said you liked my song and to prove the point you hummed along |
