 Post subject: Stacy Journal - Deep Thoughts on the creative processPosted: Tue Jan 24, 2006 4:33 pm 
The things that come out of Stacy just amaze me. Check out her latest journal entry. I think she may be still editing it (it has changed several times each time I check back). I love that she cares so much about it all and puts this much into the music. Hope she isn't getting too stressed out. |

She's wickedly honest, it's convicting cuz the shallow stupid things I allow to affect my life she refuses straight up, and the lies that I tell to make myself appear cool and "in", she flat out denies. _________________ I'll never be cool enough

I understand what she means exactly. Everything is mechanical, and electronic, and clangy now. People only listen to a certain "genre" of music because it supposedly fits to the type of clothes they wear, or just what the people around them like. Kind of lame to me. I refuse most of the "music" that is introduced to me, I listen to it the whole way through though, not just get a speck of it and say,"I don't like this" Unless it's certain things. But "new" music is really clangy and for lack of a better word "fake" But then again...I'm really odd. So I've been told, because of the music I DO like.  (classical, German alternative opera-ish, Orchestrated video game soundtracks, EISLEY, and Musica Tradicional de España con unas diferencias)

I especially liked the part about the core, the womb of music. John Lennon had a special way with words. More and more, Eisley reminds me of The Beatles. Especially Stacy reminds me of John. I know, weird. They have a catchyness about them that makes me think commercial pop. Yet it is nothing like anything commercial or pop I have ever heard. In other words they are catchy without being like anyone else. The special kind of music is not just a slogan. Stacy's wanting to be over the idea of catchyness seems to me a need to not be pigeon-holed into an "Eisley sound" |

It's okay to like these things that Stacy may happen to dislike, so long as you truly like them and are not just trying to "fit in" or something. Stacy's opinion is still just an opinion, and thoughts still just thought. I agree, her honesty is great, but just 'cos she feels differently about something doesn't mean you should feel convicted. Unless.. well, I don't know you, so maybe you are just liking it 'cos it's "cool" or something. In which case, maybe conviction is necessary? Not sure. |

This is an interesting statement. Sometimes people start believing things after they read them because it strikes true with them. It strikes a chord. They wake up and realize something they never did before. Other times maybe it is just imitation. But where do you draw the line? How do you distinguish? Interesting thoughts. I've enjoyed reading their journals, they are pretty...thought provoking and quite often very neat. I can't relate to thinking new music is "clanky" or "mechanical" though. I can't find a way to make that true for me. I've found such an expanse of amazing music that if I said that it would be terribly dishonest. that's just me though. _________________

Maybe when Stacy is making her comments about new music, she is showing love for the old music rather than so much distaste for new music. Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, I haven't heard it yet but I will be getting it soon. So much buzz and good review about this album. The part of Stacy's Journal about the clanky parade, no real substance, etc... seemed a little sad. I felt bad for her. That is why I said what I did about hoping she is not getting too stressed out. |

It's kind of strange. I understand what she's saying and respect it, and though it's a very inclusive statement she's making, it's said in a very fair and open-minded sort of way. You hear a lot of opinions bandied about like it's the gospel, without any real individual thought put behind it, let alone experience. Stacy showed both, and even though we could probably all try to prove her wrong, it would just be silly. But an interesting point is that to make something good, you have to know the difference between what you like and what you don't; and what is quality and what is just lame. It's impossible to say for sure, but it looks like Stacy is looking at what she can do to bring what she thought made music of the past more "real" than today, and it's just exciting to see what somebody like that could bring to the musical table. It's those types of things that make me like Eisley as a band, and as people in a band. I can't say that about most bands I like. You don't have to be a role model, or a superstar to impress me.
