I'd just rather get some bling instead of a tattoo maybe one of those big gold rope chains that Rev-Run and DMC used to wear in the 80's....YES SON!

Love it! I used that as the inspiration for my center back piece, but I drew a more tree-like version. It's such a symbolic image!

I have a teensy butterfly on the lower back, but the tree is my pride and joy, and I definitely plan on more!

Since I can sort of give you advice, I'd advise waiting just a couple more years before making that decision.

Please listen to the wise and powerful Jamie. My sister got a tattoo as soon as she turned 18.

.....she is going to be sooo sorry she did that.

I'd like to ask Jamie and Clark why they think Carolyn should wait til (I'm guessing 20ish) before deciding Confused

Surely she's mature enough at 18 to make this decision

Some people like tattoos, some don't.At the end of the day it is as simple as that.

Oh, she's definitely mature enough. I just know how much of a 180 is possible from the last few years of teendom/first few years of the 20s. If she still wants a tattoo when she's 22 or 23, fine. I just think it lessens the likelyhood that it will be regretted down the road. And if it's "forever," then waiting a couple of years shouldn't be a huge deal. But that's just my two cents. She's free to do what she likes.

I got my tattoo 2 years ago on my 18th birthday, and I still love it.
Though I had planned it for like 3 years in advance haha

I have quite the collection of tattoos, and I don't regret any of them.
Like it's been said it's a matter of choice, some like them and some don't.
I use them as a personal road map of my life and the people I care about, and that's something I doubt I'll ever regret.

I wanted to get the whole "stars on the wrist" get up since I was 13, but now I'm not digging the whole idea anymore. Tattoos are for a long time.
If I should ever get one though, I'd choose inner right ankle, something small. The pain stories are keeping me away though.

I'm just concerned that making life-long decision like that at the age of 18 is something to be questioned. I'm not telling her not to get one, i'm just saying that planning years in advance won't necessarily prepare you for how you are going to feel about it...5 years....10 years... 20 years down the road. I don't know how old she is, I was kind of talking speaking of her friend. I just think that a lot can happen in the years after the big "18".

But hey, if you think your ready. Go for it. I've thought about getting one myself for a while.

I don't think that it's a matter of if you like them or not... I think it's more a matter of if you will still feel that way about them down the road.

Thats my personal take on it as well.

I don't think holding out for 2/5/10/whatever years because one day you may regret is a little bit of a weird way of thinking to me.If you're in that point of your life where you feel you'll want one then go for it,have a good think beforehand but don't let "what if's" stop you from doing things you want.

and specifically in Carolyns case she's only talking about a small symbol on her hip so even if one day she did decide shes not too fond of it any longer it's not going to be too hard to cover up.
