Has anyone else noticed that more and more bands are being compared to Eisley? Also, many bands are saying that they are influenced and/or just plain love Eisley.
I find it funny and somewhat odd that Eisley isn't even well known or best selling, but they are already becoming a classic band.

That's a pretty sweet article. It's nice to see The Envy Corps and General Sherman get such great press.

General Sherman and the Envy Corp are also in this feature:

http://www.dmjuice.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060329/JUICE05/603 28013/1115/JUICEARCHIVENEW

Eisley is mentioned in passing in there, too. But only in a "sounds like" way (that I've seen). And my picture of General Sherman is on there. Which maybe means I've been published by Juice/The Register? I need to ask. Laughing

Sweet dealy! Eisley rightfully earned it's recognition.

Jamie! You have been now published by Juice and the Iowa State Daily. Smile You should demand money!

I don't particularly think we sound like Eisley, but I guess it's hard to shake that comparison when you are female fronted and have some guys on the rhythm section. I just don't think our piano style (instrumentation in general) sounds much like Eisley at all, but heeey, it's allll grood. Pop is pop, eh?

How did you happen upon this article, Luke's Mom? I actually hadn't even seen it yet.

that is how i like it... not insanely popular.. just known to people who really really care. like us on here.. but also becoming classic. i love it when that happens to bands Smile

Yep. Unique and influential bands often have trouble finding mainstream success.

There's an old quote about the Velvet Underground: "They only sold a few thousand records, but everyone who bought one started a band"

Some other bands that never became mainstream but are often cited as influences:

Television
Fugazi
Mission Of Burma
Love

There are many more, but I can't think of them right now.

This is sure to become Boyd and Kim's least favorite thread

ha ha ha !!!

Yeah, this thread is certainly a jinx if there ever was one..

So to undo the jinx, here's a list of unique and influential bands that were successful:

Beatles (the greatest of all time)
Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones
Pink Floyd
Ramones
The Pixies

Again, many others, too numerous to mention....

To be fair, also, Fugazi chooses to stay at their level of success. So they are extremely successful. They just choose to be semi-obscure.

Sonic Youth

and A LOT more

Good additions, although I would include Sonic Youth in the list that did find success, which is funny, because 99% of the music I have heard from them would be considered utterly unlistenable by most people, yet most people have heard of them.

I think their popularity has a lot to do with Homerpalooza. Wink
