So I've just gotten off the plane from Toronto (on which I got sick. Flying sets my insides ascramble), and have uploaded the stuff from the show last night at the Mod Club, which was AMAZING (the show and the club). So here's my cool little story; Took a taxy up to the venue really early, and after checking out the front, we went for a little walk down the street to find a place to eat. But it began to rain, so we just ducked into some little fast food place and ate dinner. Coming out the door, I looked to my right, and saw most of Eisley and Brighten crossing the street, returning, as I would later find out, from a Starbucks. I made a weird gesture that was mostly inspired by my own surprise, and Boyd called out to me to "Come see Eisley play at the Mod Club at 8:00." I responded that I WAS going to that show, which caught him a bit off guard. Anyway, I walked with the band back to the venue (they stopped first to check out a shoe place along the way), and Boyd and I talked a bit about Eisley's fanbase, playing in Canada, and the recently announced Eurotrip. That was unexpected, and really made the whole experience that much more memorable. We returned to the venue and the band went in to sound check and such. The wait begins... (looking down the street from The Mod Club)
I waited outside from 5 to 8 in order to get first shot at the merch table, and then hussle over and still get a good spot from which to watch the show. This plan worked well. I was fourth on line, got two shirts (Eisworm, Creature) and a hoodie . The only downside of all this was that by the time the whole show was over, I had been standing up for 7 hours, and my back was taking out her angers on me. But it was totally worth it. The show: (note: my camera kinda sucks. There are a couple shots that came out very nicely, though)
Brighten started up, and they were ok. I didn't really expect to be wowed by them, because that's not really my kind of music, but there seemed to be several people in the crowd that enjoyed their set. For the last chorus of their final tune, Sherri came out and sung backing vocals, which was cool.
Then Simon Dawes played a lengthy set, which was great because I found myself really enjoying them. Lots of creativity there, and no small amount of lightheartedness, which is great. Their front man told everyone that the band had literally JUST arrived before they had to go onstage, so their sound balance had the bass a little high, but it wasn't really a big deal. They still put on a great show. After that, set up for the Eisley set took longer than any I've ever experienced, though perhaps my having been standing for a very long time had something to do with making it seem even longer. I think it created a lot of anticipation in the crowd though, so that was good. Then the show began! It was spectacular. Everybody was in top form, and Sherri's voice sounded excellent, as she said she seemed to be getting over her illness. The set list was marvelous;
The band introduced Taking Control as another new song, and Boyd later told me that it was their first time playing it live. It was really cool. Super empowering and feel-good. Also, Sherri began to introduce Sun Feet but Garron stopped her because Weston's click track was set for TASU or something. I don't really know about click tracks, but I was happy because I prefer TASU. Head Against The Sky was SO GREAT! SO GREAT! Again, Brighten/Simon Dawes came out during Trolley Wood and everybody clapped out a superb finale.
The next two shots ended up kinda blurred, but I actually love the effect.
I also got two quick videos. The audio sounds like a bomb going off (again, crappy camera), but they still turned out ok, particularily Just Like We Do. (Mr. Pine) http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2SUXFN9DWIRIC0GJAKIKFB9KT3 (Just Like We Do) http://s64.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1OV2X1D4OB4MX076TAI4CJ3KOF After the show, I stuck around to get signatures (on the setlist above, which I snagged ASAP. Weston's is kinda hard to make out, but that's just the scanner), and talk a bit. I got Weston and Garron to sign the list, by which time the place was nearly empty of all but the crew. Then about 10 minutes later, Chauntelle came out with her daughter and signed, and I now feel really bad about not remembering her daughter's name, cause I made a point of asking (might have been Kayla? Starts with a K? Not sure). Boyd and I had a quick chat, he signed for me, and then asked who I didn't have yet. Apparently Stacy and Sherri had gone out the back way, but Boyd (being his usual godlike self) took me back to the van and got the last two sigs for me. I think I may have come off a little bit obsessive, but I hope not. I really really appreciated that he went to the trouble. Then I said goodby, went back to my hotel and fell asleep. Overall, my first Eisley concert could not have been more enjoyable. Next time they hit this neck of the woods, you can bet I'll be there. ~fin~ _________________

okay, i have a question...what's the point of getting there three hours early just to buy a t-shirt before everyone else? every time i get to a show early, it's because i want to stand right up front (on the barrier or stage, as the case may be). but i always see people who get there super early, then miss out on a prime spot because they were buying stuff. i'm not trying to be antagonistic, i'm genuinely curious... |

That show was amazing. I could not believe how close I got to Stacy Simon Dawes was entertaining. They really got everyone involved. I loved how Eisley came back for an encore _________________ My Journal

Yeah, Chauntelle has a daughter (you got her name right too, OceanMachine-- it's Kayla). She thanks her in her thank you section in RN if I'm correct. Sounds like a brilliant show-- I bet it was stellar to see! _________________ "I cannot discuss your verses; for any attempt at criticism would be foreign to me. AH the show was great! I didn't stand for as long as you did, but I still did my fair share of standing AH THE SHOW WAS TOO GOOD! The first couple of bands were pretty good (Simon Dawes got the theatre/club the closest that scene kids could ever get to jumping ^_^), and I enjoyed several parts of both their sets. I also got a t-shirt before the shows started. For Brighten, I especially loved the last song (not just for its ending... though that helped too), and the fact that they were all so hot. The latter reason was probably very apparent to many people, as I repeated a bunch of girls and told the band to "take off their shirt." Hehe, I made quite a fool of myself ^_^ Simon Dawes seemed to have more humour and a better stage presence. I'm not sure which had better music, but I think I'll give the slight advantage to Simon Dawes- they're just more my style. There were a couple of solos that just made me melt, and they never let down on the humour. I was so close to the stage (with Starweaver/Daniela) that I got two autographs from Wiley (bassist) and the lead singer (Taylor, I believe)! And finally, Simon Dawes was done. And so began the wait... That had to be the longest sound check in the history of anything, ever. But boy, was it worth it! I even conspired with some random guy to rush the stage... but instead, I just got a couple pictures of the Stacy for him The songs were nice, and some points in the music made me forget about my dying back. It was hard, because I had to help myself forget about it (which didn't really work), but it was all so worth it! And other things made the waiting and standing even more worth it. For those of you who went, you may remember some moron yelling out "I love you Sherri!", and another dude screaming "Stacy!". Well, I was the moron yelling "I love you Sherri!" Sherri didn't seem to respond Well, I decided to yell something to Stacy. In between a song, I yelled out her name (the other guy mentioned before was not me), and she actually looked at me! Haha, too bad I was looking away when she did But then somewhat of a miracle happened. Later on in the show, I randomly screamed out "I love you Stacy!" And... And she said "I love you, too" into the microphone! And MORE stuff happened! Remember when Chauntelle through Brighten's EP into the air? I was the one who caught it! (I think people behind me got pissed off because of it, hehe). I was so happy... it was such a lovely show. It was all so very worth it. Everything, including going to sleep at 1 AM. I got my EP signed after the show, as well as mine and Daniela's ticket. I also purchased Room Noises (It's cracked in the front... the case, I mean. But the music RULES so it's all good ^_^). That was my night... Such an awesome night indeed! P.S- For anyone who thinks they know who I am, PM me for my Myspace. I'm not sure if I can post it here... I don't want to spam |
