Is there a reason why Eisley doesn't gather up a bunch of their songs from before they signed with Warner Bros. onto a full-length album and release it?

I know there's a few songs the band doesn't like, but I think they should record "Wings and Windows" and a few other ones.

they should just get all their old songs, re-record them but not through Warner, and do an exclusive thing from a fansite :-p i was talking to a friend about that a while ago, so they can have all their old stuff available and be able to record other songs of theirs that hasn't been recorded and just save the best for a studio WB album

Because they aren't already crazy busy.

I'm sure they can't because of their contract. But yeah, they're pretty busy too, and I imagine they would rather spend the time recording new songs.

I think they should save that for down the road, anyway. Maybe if they get four or five albums out, and they need a break. Gather the B-sides and old stuff and then rerelease it when it's not as well-known.

I'm not sure a day will ever come when the old stuff is "not as well known." At the Lawrence show I commented to Boyd that Eisley is the only band I've ever seen that can play songs recorded on EPs that haven't been sold in five years, and the entire audience sings along away. That's the power of the Internet, I suppose. The fact that those songs are available, free, and legal (not to mention that they're some of Eisley's best stuff) has done wonders for spreading the word about the band.

I agree. And a lot of their older songs really are amazing. I'd be surprised if WB really did have a problem with re-releasing those songs. But I really don't understand how all that legal rabble nonsense works, so there could be some blatantly obvious reason that I'm not picking up.

I mean, I don't even see why a band needs a record label anyway. Someone please explain?

record labels pay for the recording, manufacturing, and distribution of the band's music.

And keep a firm grip on the bands' throats, I suppose.

As with so many other things, I think that whole system should be reorganized.

Bingo. Record labels don't "pay" for anything. They always make sure they get their money back, long before the band see any of it. Bands technically don't need a label, especially in the age of the Internet. In a perfect world, no one would be signed.

Don't say 'In a perfect world...' Ever. I have impulses to stick people in the throat with broken glass when they do.
Seriously. High school philosophy class is not good with a bunch of idiots you'd expect to be in middle school. Oh God..

Okay. Yes, I agree with you on that one.

Every time someone says 'In a perfect world...' they're taking a step towards keeping that something from happening. They build doubt into their minds that it won't happen, as if the way things are at the present time are the natural way, the only way. They may as well say '...Is never going to happen.' A new world is just as likely as an old one, and the only thing keeping the world from being perfect is people themselves.
If this becomes an actual conversation please check your post for anything annoyingly cliche like 'But people are naturally mean and grunpy so the world could never...' I seriously may destroy my computer monitor, then find you and kill you.
I'm that crazy.

Kind of.
