Hello. I posted a my thoughts in a really long comment on Eisley's Myspace, and then I found this place.. Silly me. I will post here as well.. An Afternoon With Eisley... It was summer 2005. My friend Jacqueline was going through a phase where she randomly picked bands on myspace to torture me with for weeks at a time. It was getting to the point where I thought I was going to have to destroy Myspace with my lasers when out of nowhere she forced me to listen to this band called Eisley. Right before I cut my arm with a knife I heard the first three notes of a song I believe is called "Mr. Pine." At that moment, I knew I had found a new love.... Since then, Eisley is a daily pleasure in my house.. Sunday, I finally had THE pleasure. I was able to see Eisley at Memphis's Beale St. Music Festival a.k.a Memphis in May. They were scheduled to play at two in the afternoon that day.. So I woke up at the crack of Nine A.M. and send death by stick threats to everyone who was going to the fest with me to hurry the bloody shoes up.. We knocked back a few beers on the drive up to Memphis and made it to the park right at two. I ran to the stage with massive amounts of joy.. or maybe it was the diseased monsters from Neptune that were after me.. i can't remember. Anyway, I went right up to the front of the stage just in time to watch the band soundcheck. It's rare to see the band actually onstage during soundcheck at Memphis in May, but there they were.. Hanging out and being all Eisley-like. I consumed another alcoholic beverage before the show began.. Right before they started I got the pleasure of telling the annoncer how my weekend was total crap. I felt good. Then I heard it. Those notes.... When I heard the intro to "Mr. Pine" being played I nearly jumped out of my skin. It was sooo fitting for them to open up with the song that made me like them in the first place. Sherri and Stacy's vocal harmonies were purely sublime. I had a great view of Sherri, Stacy and Garron for throughout the show.. Chauntelle was at the total opposite end of the stage from me. The was a really bummer, because as a guitarist myself, I really wanted to get a good look at her. Weston was hidden behind Garron.. arg..... There is nothing I like more than to watch people hit stuff with sticks.. You messed that up for me Garron.. Anyway, back to the music. The band continued to dish out one beautiful piece of music after another. Each one powerful enough to turn me into a raving, half naked goat from Denmark. After each song the audience was thanked kindly by the two singers. At one point, Sherri decided to tell us some random story about the drummer getting sick while on tour or something.. I'm not too clear on it.. I just know that my friends and I have a running joke about musicians throwing up. So we cheered wildly after hearing that wonderful fact. Immediately the band went into "Plenty of Paper" which was my favorite Eisely song all last summer. There's just something about the John Williams/Danny Elfman ooos and the colorful lyrics in that tune that hits me in the head like nineteen thousand sacks of olive oil. I don't recall a whole lot after that.. The alcohol was begging to steal my magic memory powers.. But I do know that right towards the end of the show, the band busted out "Head Against the Sky." I have always loved this song, but seeing it live.... wow! The energy and emotion was out of this galaxy. During this song I was getting chills up and down my spine. Multicolored beams shot out of my eyes and I became an insignificant dot in the universe somewhere.. I was in pure ecstasy. But before I become unpuddled, the show was over.. And I was left with a feeling of satisfaction.. Like you get when you order a pizza for the family and eat the entire damn thing yourself. The rest of the day sucked. I was attacked my creatures in the mud and ended up cold and wet. But I must say.. I would go to the mud hole everyday of my life if it meant i could watch Eisley play again. Thank you.. Lobster.. Show highlights: Watching soundcheck Hearing new songs Cheering for the puking Watching Sherri pull off some delayed pick scrapes Finally being able to see all the band members and know for a fact they aren't fake and are really just my 12th grade English teacher coming back to haunt me. i really wanted to go to this show because it was on my birthday but memphis 9 hours away ... I flew down from Boston to see the Memphis in May event. I wanted to see Gomez ~ Galactic ~ Big Star ~ and a few others... Lo-and behold, I saw Eisley waiting for Galactic. Impressions: Un-real, what great vocal skills, solid fundamentals, cool grooves... I'm hooked, what a fun band. I felt so compelled to express my joy I went through all the BS required to actually post on this site. I hope your hand gets better (curling iron damage) |

i read every word. i'm super dooper stoked to hear such an account - seeing how, as he/she probably knows, we drove 900 miles day of show to do that (very tacked on) show. It gives me pleasure that it was well worth the trip. Just to hear that account makes it even more a pleasure. See the pics in my journal: http://www.eisley.com/journals/trolleywood/ cheers to memphis and this writer. welcome. boyd _________________ EisleyWebGuy "The industrialists never saw the fruit of their own labor - Post Moderism, which I now proclaim as dead. The hand burns and all. I live 60 miles south of Memphis so my trip wasn't quite as stressful. Well, maybe the evil sausages in my coffee.. or the red balloons that wouldn't stop talking about how I don't see their point of view on physics.. But still.. Memphis in May sucked this year.. But Eisley saved the day.. I was only a fan before.. But now, I believe I'll become a follower. I checked out some of the photos you had. I found myself in two of them. Now i have something to brag about. anyway. I wish the best for all of you. Take it easy and watch out for snakes.. Walt |

I heard variations in some other songs too. Holland 2005 probably knows which songs they were, his memory is like a steel trap. _________________ Amber

Because around here, that has always been my guitar playing trademark. Well.. We'll just see what Sherri has to say when I rub a goat on my strings.. |
