If Eisley was classified as a screamo-metal-hair-glam-disco band I'd still love their music. I don't really care what other people think about them because I know that their music is brilliant and heart-rendering and lovely. We all get 'em... and if others start too as well, then that's pretty sweet. But if people are going to classify them as "emo" or a "chick band" and not ever listen to them in their lifetime just because they've been misled or are just plain prejudice of vague genre title, then they probably wouldn't get Eisley's music anyway.

Can I get an amen? *Sheepishly asks*

I feel really dumb asking this after that great reply .... but what would you classify Eisley under? I've never met anybody in person that's an Eisley fan, so... this is what happens every time:
Friend: What's your favourite band?
Me: Eisley! =)
Friend: Wha-? Eisley...?
Me: yeah.
Friend: What genre are they? Like, what's their sound?
Me: ....... Indie-pop-acoustic-folk-rock. Um. They sound good.
Friend: Oh. *gives me a very odd look*

And so...yes. How WOULD you describe Eisley to a friend .. in not a lot of words? (I KNOW they're not Emo though. That's just kinda weird.)

It is nothing, really.

You'll get so many different definitions to it, there won't be one that you can really believe.

I have nothing against Emo A.K.A Emu. Haha. See, my friend was like.. Oh Eisley is so Emo they're sell outs and that's what made me kind of upset. I just don't know why people are so judgemental. *shrug*

sell-outs? Laughing Laughing

Well if they did sell out, the least the record company could do for them would be to give them a lot more money. Shouldn't you get rich when selling out? If not, what was the point?

historically emo came up alongside post-hardcore to deal with the lack of satisfaction that hardcore provided for many people. So Rites of Spring, mid-80s, emo referred to "emotional hardcore" not simply emotional...all music is emotional...that would be stupid to label one type of music emotional.
From what I've seen though emo doesn't become a real force until it hits the west coast towards the end of the 80s and early 90s finding itself alongside grunge. Then by the end of the decade emo becomes a sort of pop-punk influence but with supposedly more meaningful lyrics. It allows one to be sensitive while maintaining punk rockness.

As far as sound goes, like I said it came out of hardcore and it had heavy hardcore influences but abandoned the absolute rage of hardcore music and added some slightly more complex stylings. and then yeah...it became emo as emo is today. Well, emo doesn't really mean anything today, i'd say for at least 2 years the word has been meaningless simply a buzz word attached to bands by labels and no-nothing half way music fans to describe the popular sound.
