John the guy from England
Sea Post King

This is good. The band and site, I mean, not my following spiel. Although...

I was looking at Nature's Law by Embrace on youtube, and then followed a link to Telescope Eyes, and was immediately reminded of summer (yes, it is actually summer, but Britain is in the middle of Global Warming or some nonsense),
and the lightness of being,
and the melancholy of being,
and the transformational power of a pleasing progression through the thirds and fourths,
and the memory of Crowded House and Belle and Sebastian,
and the beautiful idea of a family of young musicians living in an oasis of making pretty things to show their friends,
and the idea that people can live like that,
and the idea that nothing else really matters apart from increasing the nice things in the world.

I'm sure you're really a bunch of bastards, but your music is powerful nice. (Just kidding about the bastards thing. It's English humour, ca WWII).

Thank you.

Ha. For the record, the band are awesome people. And I don't even mean that in the "I worship celebrities" way. ha. They're just darn fine people.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

I knew when I first saw your screen name under the 'Newest Member' section that you would probably have some pretty slammin' posts.

For the record, the band aren't bastards, but we are..

welcome to the board, guy from England. I'm sorry but you can't really make that claim to fame - there are other brits around.
That said... just now i got the summery feeling. Maybe it's the fact that i don't have to do anything today, today being a sunday! Cool

This is well exciting, as they say in the area where the river Thames meets the sea. I think this is a nice place where nice people exist.

Firstly (or rather, secondly,), I didn't mean to pretend I was THE person from England called John. But you make a good point. (Sheesh.)

And sec-- next, I don't claim that the British invented the humorous use of the word 'bastard'.

Good.

Anyway, I'm still buzzing from a thousand fragrant summer insects that just swarm in the warm hum gently, rather than itching you bad in the skin. I'm not even on drugs or anything. (By the way, did I mention that the British invented drugs? I'm proud of that.)

It's late in the island of windy bottoms, and the rain has done its thing today. Another bleak day in the land that Blair forgot. It's funny that I feel like my favourite chat show host just retired and left... well, you get the idea. A guy can't be expected to be au fait with the cultural minutiae of a different continent.

I went to NY a couple of months ago. That was nice. I went to Cafe Wha? in the village. I don't know if all Brits feel like they've stepped literally into the cinema when they go to the US, but I did. It's a pity that when you gus come here it must be like stepping into Eastenders. (That's right Brad Pitt.) (Did you know he uses this site?) (Under the name "I'm not Brad"?) (Not really).

I sure hope there's not a limit to the amount of parentheses a person can use. 8o)

Anywho. I'm very pleased that my initial ramblings were greeted with such attention. I hope it's not a privilege reserved for 'newbies'. If it is, then would someone tell me where the men's room is? Otherwise, I look forward to your witty and verbose relies...

All the love that a one person can give on behalf of a repressed nation.
X

By the way. I love this band, and all the people who sail in her.
