I wrote this in celebration of my one year anniversary of discovering Eisley. Yeah, it's long... so I won't be offended if you don't read it. I wrote it simply because I felt like doing it. ----------------- I joined this board one year and one day ago. I saw MossEisley open for Coldplay on January 28, 2003. I had never heard of the band, and I was actually disappointed that I had to stand through TWO opening acts. However, from the moment I heard “Over the Mountains We Go”, I was hooked (the lyricless chorus amazed me). In fact, I tried to go to MosEisley.com through my cell phone right after the band got off the stage. When I arrived home later that night, I learned it was MossEisley.com and I visited the site for the first time. I signed up at the forum and posted my first message at 1:18 a.m. on the morning of the 29th. Since then I have seen this forum grow to 500 members… then 1000… then 2000. It seems as though much of this growth has occurred in such a short amount of time. Then again, this year seems to have passed very quickly. Members come from all over the world. There are some in Eisley's home town of Tyler, TX and there are some on the other side of the world in Australia. I remember my early days on the forum. Posts seemed few and far between, and that made it difficult to visit this site frequently; there just wasn’t much to read. But people were incredibly nice, so I kept coming back. Now I find it harder to keep up with the pace of the board sometimes (with some boadies posting 40+ posts per day on average), but the people are still nice so I still keep coming back. While I have been a member I’ve seen much happen to MossEisley. They changed their name to Eisley, were signed to Warner Brothers, extended their tour with Coldplay, went on tour with Brand New, released two EPs, created a video that aired on MTV2… and so on. The band has been great, the DuPrees have been great, and the music has been great. But I also appreciate the other members of this board just as much. They embody the spirit of community; to me they are as much a part of Eisley as the band itself. They offer support, encouragement, advice, and of course, information related to Eisley. They contribute pictures, music, videos, and stories about Eisley. Some offer to meet up with others of us at shows, and even lend transportation or a place to stay for those of us traveling out of town. And I can’t say enough good things about our fellow boardie, Boyd DuPree. I only single him out because he has been a tremendous source of information thanks to his special connection to the band. The great thing I know about this board is that there are many members just like Boyd; they’re enthusiastic and willing to help however they can. I’ve witness members who have passed out flyers about shows all on their own. They trade bootlegs or songs with other members. They buy friends and family Eisley merchandise. They start fan sites to share Eisley information with the world. It’s a great bunch of people and that makes this board a nice place to visit. I offer my sincerest thanks to all of the members, friends, family, and fellow fans of Eisley. There seems to be a lot in store for us Eisley fans and board members in the coming year. I’m looking forward to it. Feel free to share your thoughts on your time here at this board as well. I know there's a lot more I could say, but I don't want to write forever. _________________ "If you're a ninja, every day is like friday." -Jamie M. |

great post! so true. well, i guess this is as good a time as any to post my 'discovery story' - i guess i'll just copy and paste it to jamie in a minute for his zine. I can't believe I came so close to seeing Eisley twice before I finally saw them. And even that time was an accident. The first was Coldpaly, January 2003, in Austin. I had won tickets on the radio, and we were supposed to show up early for a meet & greet with Coldplay (I'm still a little miffed that Chris Martin never showed) and a sound check (that didn't happen). So we still had a couple of hours before the show, and because the tickets were mezanine, we didn't have to wait in line for General Admission. We were hungry. We went to eat. We got back during the middle of Ron Sexsmith's set. I had no idea what I had just missed. The second was South by Southwest in March 2003. This was the first I heard of MossEisley/Eisley. I remember perusing the SXSW website for acts, to see if it was worth the price of the wristband. The Eisley blurb caught my eye, because of Tyler's proximity to my place of birth. After I clicked for the description, I was further intrigued - it sounded like it would be a great show. But then I saw the other bands on that stage, and knew that I would probably need a much more expensive and coveted SXSW badge. So I skipped the hassle. So one day after work, during probably the crappiest month at work ever, in one of my worst moods ever, I decided to take my mind off things and walk over to Waterloo Records. Much to my surprise, a friend from Dallas was there, and there was an in-store show going on. "Oh Eisley," I thought, "how cool!" I didn't know the half of it. I had been in a major funk for a couple of weeks, working extremely long hours, but as soon as they sound-checked my spirits picked up. And when they started playing, I felt like I was lifted off the ground. I had to blink hard to make sure it was real, and I'm pretty sure I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. The band was so gracious and friendly when we were getting things signed. I knew that this was really something special. I plan on making up for missing those two shows every chance I get. I hope they can come back and play Waterloo one more time before they're too big to! _________________ hello. |

6/6/03. They were better than Coldplay, really. I had heard the same exact Coldplay gig in Phoenix back in Februrary. It was vanilla, maybee a little more exciting to some because of the venue and the rain, but it wasnt anything to write home about. But that little Eisley band, they sure were good. _________________ I can't find an icon |
