A discussion started in this thread:

And it has got me thinking. Usually, the only people who get the word across to bands about how "the masses" feel about the banter/interaction vs. music aspect of live shows are the dingbats who scream "shut up and git playin'!" People seem to vocally be against much banter in shows, except the above thread seems to suggest that people actually enjoy that.

So in the interest of letting the person who is not a loud dingbat actually be heard, what do YOU prefer your shows to be?

1) I prefer more music with just a little banter

2) Music is nice, but I like to hear about you as a person. Talk away!

3) It really doesn't matter to me.

... I'll try to add an option or two if I see it as viable enough. Smile

P.S. 1) Let's be civil to each other, in spite of differing opinions and 2) Let's remember that the band tries hard to please us, so let's not knock them too hard. Criticism is fine, but let's keep it respectful, please!

While I like Eisley banter, I don't enjoy it as much with all bands. I think they had enough on this last show for me to still enjoy it, although there were a few times where they played a ton of songs in a row and I thought, gee, they could take a break and say something other than "Thanks!" I think there needs to be some banter because if I just wanted to hear song after song, I'd go listen to the CD, y'know?

A good balance of either is key to a good concert.

The type of banter really makes a difference. When it's just a couple sentences it's cool. Now if they started going on political rants i'd stop going to shows.

I don't mind either way to be honest. I'm not the most talkative person, so I know if I were in a band I most likely wouldn't talk much while on stage... therefore I'm not going to complain about bands that don't talk a lot. If they want to talk, fine, that's cool... if they don't then that's also fine with me. I don't want them to feel like they HAVE to talk or else people will be angry, because then what's the point if it's forced?

I couldn't care less about banter. Yes, it's nice and usually entertaining but I'm just glad I get to see them perform.

hmm...with eisley, since i've seen them many times now, i'd kind of like a little more banter, just cause i've already seen them perform a lot of those songs already. However, knowing that whatever eisley show i'm going to is also the first eisley show of countless other fans, i guess more music would be best. cuz i know i wanted them to play their entire repertoire at my first show.

I guess it really doesn't matter to me, because I'm usually just happy to see the band I like play, ha. I do think banter makes the show more personal, which is always great, but I try and remember that life on the road isn't all it's cracked up to be and sometimes the members are getting barely any sleep, fightin' off some sickness, missing home or just runnin' out of things to say, ha. That being said, it can always be a give and take sorta thing. So, if you want to hear something, maybe yell out to them! ...in a non-dingbat sorta way. Wink

I think they should do whatever they feel like. If they aren't doing banter because they feel pressured to have a flow or because someone told them it doesn't look professional, then they should forget that and talk all they want. If they don't want to talk that's fine too. Forced banter seems stupid but even if it seems fake at first, it can cause real reactions and dialogue. Whatever, I don't know what I'm talking about. Basically do whatever they want is good enough.

Oh and more choreographed dance steps..

I agree with what someone said above. With Eisley, I love to hear banter from the band, but with others, not so much. I think it's because the band is so personable and they are so open with their fans, but at an Eisley show I'm a little let down without some talking.

Hmm. I wonder ... does the fact that it is Eisley dramatically affect your answer? (Directed at everyone.)

I don't see what that would have to do with it.

I know I would care a little more about what Eisley would say since they are one of my favorite bands. However, that fact also means that if they play 20 songs in a row without a word, I'm peachy. ha. hmm.

Ha. well, I was hoping for in general. But then I realized that if it were about Eisley, that it might be different.
