I'd rather hear more songs than have them yabber on about stuff. Some casual banter is nice, but if the band feels like they are obligated to chat with you it gets awkward and uncomfortable for everyone. If you're really all about wanting to talk to the band you can meet them after their set. _________________ nothing takes away the past like the future. |

hmmmmmm It doesn't matter to me. or better yet, it depends. If I'm at a Death Metal show, chances are we are not going to hear a knock knock joke from the lead singer. Where as a mellow folk show there is going to be some banter and tuning up before the next song. WHICH is actually my BIG issue at shows and thats I hate watching people tune there guitars so much. They take forever its so annoying. i remember when it was the roadies job to hand a tuned guitar or bass and that was that.!! ooops i got off track! Does anyone think that there is to much banter at an Eisley show?? I like eisley banter its sweet and amusing....but some times they do talk over each other and I get confused when their all going at once, like little cackling chickens... _________________ TRUCK STOP SHOWER GIFT CERTIFICATES FOR EISLEY!!!! My brother used to try and tell jokes between songs sometimes and get no reaction from the crowd at all. He'd turn around to me and look disappointed. I told him probably nobody could understand him, I've noticed I can't decipher most of what someone is saying through a PA. _________________

In general, I think hearing from the performer can make the concert a bit more personal. That is, if it's natural and shows some personality. If it's just akward or forced, then just skip it. I mean, telling a story after every other song isn't necessary, but it might be nice for a band to say more than "Well, this is our last song...thank you" which is what many shows I've been to have been like recently. When I think of no banter, that's what I'm thinking of. It's probably not a deal breaker on whether I enjoy the show or not while I'm there, but it's just something that makes it a bit more enjoyable in memory. And with Eisley: It's not so much a demand for entertainment, but a compliment that I like their banter. Part of it might be because they are my favorite band, but I know twice I brought people with me to their shows who heard the music before, but probably wouldn't have gone if not to do me a favor, and they came away with comments about the personal experience. That's a good thing. With all the big compliments that's been posted about the Combinations Tour, I'm sure it's not that bad. I, for one, have been super excited to catch this tour since it's beginning just based off of the youtube clips...And it's this week!! |

If the banter is good--funny and engaging, like it should be with a charismatic artist--I'm all for it. I feel kind of cheated if the artist just plays a set without saying anything, or restricts interaction with the audience to "How are you tonight, [insert town here]?" Stage presence is vital to a touring artist, and banter is vital to stage presence. I'm trying to work on mine. _________________ INTELLECT AND ROMANCE OVER BRUTE FORCE AND CYNICISM Smokemonster |

i don't really like banter all that much, but i don't really mind it all that much, either, as long it's kept reasonably short, and is actually entertaining (and, even if it isn't, i'm probably not enough of a dingbat to ever scream “shut up and git playin'!”) honestly, though, banter is probably the least important thing to me when it comes to the “live experience…” |

with eisley i'd want them to talk, I loved when they interacted with the audience during the acoustic shows. with the Decemeberists Colin was so freakin charming and talkative i fell even more in love with him, and lord knows if i saw Jeff Mangum I wouldn't want him to shut up (but I wouldn't want him to stop playing his music, either, so it could go on forever). but if I saw modest mouse I wouldn't care, and I probably wouldn't mind with Radiohead either. I think it depends on the music. Some bands have more story-telling songs, so I appreciate when they talk about their stories, too. but i don't want my eisley babies to be robots playing music on stage, only Daft Punk has that place in my heart _________________ and while your head is spinning hold tight it's just beginning |
