I'm listening to a live concert I have that I got from SYP a while ago (like 2007), and unfortunately I can't find it there anymore, but it is apparently the first concert after they dropped "Moss" from their name and became just Eisley. I'm not sure if it's the full concert because I have only 8 songs, but anyway, they played Over The Mountains and it started out with some awesome electronic sounds before the keys, guitar, and drums came in. It's so Radiohead-esque. PLEASE DO THAT AGAIN, EISLEY.

Actually the whole concert is amazing. It has a way slowed down Brightly Wound with an awesome organ outro, a slower Sun Feet (I guess they played everything slower back then, haha) that has SOUL, plus other goodies like Mr. Pine (I know that's played live a lot, but it's always awesome), Sea King, and Tree Tops. But the highlight is definitely Over The Mountains, a song that I have unfortunately not heard live despite seeing Eisley 8 times now! Sad

Here is OTM, and if one person asks for the whole concert (well, 8 songs, I'm guessing they were opening? I don't know where, when, or with who this show was) I'll .rar it and upload it. But you gotta ask. Wink

Here's the full show. I'm fairly certain I have them in the correct order in my iTunes, but if you add those to your music player of choice and they aren't organized correctly, the order is Sea King - OTM - Telescope Eyes - Mr. Pine - Brightly Wound - Sun Feet - I Wasn't Prepared - Tree Tops.

Can you tell me any other info about that show, Nora? Like when, where, and with who, and if I have the full set. I'm curious.

And megaupload links die after a certain amount of time of inactivity I think, so definitely throw it back on SYP for the future! It's a gem.

I was just trying to figure that out. I'm not sure when it was or what show or year but I'm thinking it has to be like 2003-2004. Maybe?

I'm uploading them to SYP right now. http://media.strangeyellowpatterns.com/audio/album/33/first-concert-as -eisley

Sounds about right. Maybe Boyd knows (hint hint! Calling on Boyd wherever you may be!). Way before I was a fan. I so wish I had a time machine so I could go back in time and be at that concert!

I don't find this quite as charming as I probably should,
but it's a nice thing to have in my much-too-large Live Eisley collection. Smile

I do really enjoy hearing early arrangements and such, I like a lot of them more than later ones.

And I've never loved IWP live, but man I wish Sherri could still hit high notes like that.

that is probably my favorite-ever Over The Mountains.

Also interesting to note the slight change in song titles. This was after Over The Mountains We Go became Over The Mountains, and before I Wasn't Prepared For This became I Wasn't Prepared. And just after Moss Eisley became Eisley, haha.

I'm having a realllllly lazy Friday, FYI. Laughing

I love it! This is a great little set. I really enjoyed Mr. Pine, Sun Feet, and Tree Tops, too. And I actually looove going to see Eisley as openers, even though it means a shorter set. I like the fact that they start earlier, that they'll hang out after the set, and that I can get the hell out of there and go do something else at a reasonable hour.

Oh, and that reminds me. Sherri mentions the band they're opening for right after IWP, and again before Tree Tops. I'm not positive, but it sounds like she calls them Oh No.

I would love it if they opened for bands that I liked. Smile
Went to see them for the second time when they opened for Switchfoot, and I was all dorky fourteen year old fangirling over meeting Chauntelle.

Still though, they are one of the only bands I listen to that are anti-headlining meet and greet. I guess I'm just spoiled by people like Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova or Ingrid Michaelson, who will hang out and have meaningful conversations with people at 1 in the morning?

I've had some good conversation with them after headlining sets. After the Portland and Seattle Combinations Tour shows they hung out a bit by their bus for about 10 or 15 fans that waited for them to leave the venue. And after the Baylor show they were behind the stage for quite a while and that was well into the next day! I'm sure they wanted to go ASAP on those Combinations tour shows but were just too nice to say no to the few people out there. I kept it short for that reason, mostly just talked to Boyd while the band was busy signing autographs and taking pics.

My friend convinced me to wait with him by Tegan and Sara's bus after a show, and there like 40 people out there, and when they finally came out 45 minutes later they walked quickly into the bus, both wearing hoods and looking at the ground while they walked. I was so mad at my friend for making us wait for that, haha.

Yeah, I've seen them open three times. I had zero interest in Mute Math or Say Anything, so I just bounced. And their meet and greet policy did seem a little odd to me at first, but they do seem to be very consistent about it. So if I'm at a headlining show, then I don't have an expectation of getting to talk to them, and it's not a big deal.

wow. amazing find. listening to it now.

THE RHODES! hot damn. it sounds so good...

It makes me think back on some good times while listening to these songs soon after they came out (on WB eps...not this early...) with people who have now all (including myself) moved in every direction. Their "old/young" voices...the old songs. Reminds me of the first time I saw them live and why I fell in love with Eisley. I'll be sending this to those people as a good "hey, what's going on? remember when...."

Thank you.

More than any Eisley show I've seen...I'm now more excited to see their show in a few weeks in Springfield with a couple of friends who were "those people". It's been a while since seeing a true Eisley show and not have to "deal with" their opener's audience and from what they're saying, they're very exited to see an headlining Eisley show finally (this will be a first for one of them)

edits:

-- it's crazy to hear Chauntelle talk during a set from that time...she should have much more from that time until the release of Combinations. Her little quoteable statements are great --

--HA!..."you can just nab some free stickers because our name has changed and they're worth nothing now..."...if only those people/the band knew...I'll take a couple...--

--audience voice after Chauntelle says their new website'll be eisleyband.com... "Poor kids. Already got a chick name..." I'd like to punch that guy in the face multiple times...--
