...really has very little connection with other women artists and bands? how many women-led bands or artists have they toured with or performed with, not counting festivals? i was thinking about it, after reading a wonderful book on joni mitchell, carly simon, and carole king, and reading it has made me think quite a bit about eisley and their role in the music world. if anything, it seems they're connected with a lot of bands that seem quite...different...to what they do. not trying to suggest that being connected with other women is better or worst, it was just an observation.... discuss! _________________ "Die Sonne scheint noch" -- Sophie Scholl <3 <3 <3 |

I don't think this is for any particular reason other than the fact that the music scene today is heavily populated by men. _________________ my name's carrie and i love a good sandwich so if you have a sandwich, come roll with me! i'm gonna marry the mars volta. |

i know it's a sort of a slippery-slope, the major label business. you want your bands to play with the kind of bands that will give them an audience, but at the same time, you want to have a good night of music. i guess if you get into a niche with the sort of bands you play with, it can be a bit scary, taking a risk in terms of playing live. HOWEVER, you're never going to get new fans or new listeners if you play with the same kind of bands. i mean, i'd love to see a night of eisley opening with Kim Richey or Neko Case--artists who have strong followings, but they probably aren't the same audience as eisley's. (absurd? really, wasn't that the point about the whole NFG tour?) but at the same time, i could see where that might work because some fans might not go because they've never heard the music of those particular musicians. i think the sticking with one kind of audience type hasn't helped eisley's audience grow. i'm not hating on anyone when i say that, so please don't take it that way. _________________ "Die Sonne scheint noch" -- Sophie Scholl <3 <3 <3 |

WOAH WOAH WOAH. eisley has HARDLY toured with people who have common sounding music. NFG, TBS, Reggie& the Full Effect, the Myriad, and Brighten are just a few bands that eisley toured with and didn't sound like. i think if they toured with bands that had a similar sound, they might be able to grow their fanbase more. Touring with people that sound so different from them hasn't, in my opinion, made much of an impact on their fanbase size. |
